[04.2009]No one can escape from my chibi-mania,
even the poor Dante Alighieri cannot save himself! On the background the sonnet "Tanto gentile e tanto onesta pare" (sorry I really do not know how to translate it in english...
) written by Dante for Beatrice. ("La Vita Nuova")Those on the table are lilies simbol of Florence, city where Dante was born.
Inspired by a comment left by on one of my deviations.

Dante Aligheri has to be my favorite poet, and his Divine Comedy is one of the best books I've ever read. I'm serious

And, no, I never throughly studied his work in school, but in my free time I've studied just about everything there is to learn about him, and about his Divine Comedy

Here in Italy we study his works a lot (perhaps for too many scool years

I think what got me into his work was how, in "The Inferno", even though it was the Christian Hell, he did the perfect job at blending in elements of the Underworld from classical myth. Same could be said for the entire Divine Comedy, but "The Inferno" did the best job at combining myth and Christianity.

No, not that. He wears that red hat-thing on his head...with the wreath? Do you know what that is?

He wears that strange hat in all his portraits. But I saw other people wearing it in ancient illustrations, I think it's a medieval hat but i do not know much more.
The laurel-wreath was used since ancient roman age to crown militars who won important battles (like Julius Cesar) or great poets.

I noticed that Dante's worn that in a majority of all his pictures. It looks very nice on him. Which makes me wonder...what kind of hair did he have?
