Description Taken in Washington, DC at the President's Park.
This is several elements from the National Memorial of the Korea War.
I really like this memorial: kind of ironic to represent sacrified soldiers with statues of affraid soldiers... for a country quite involved in a lot of wars, afterward.

The same for me.

I saw a photo of this memorial in a book before coming to Washington. And when we went, I remembered the photo and I couldn't wait to visit the memorial.

I liked it. I was touched. Certainly, because it was well composed and accomplished by a real artist. And probably because no where else we will see a memorial made of scared soldiers.

one thing that made it special for me was the fact that my fatherinlaw flew reconnaissance during that war. he was more of a father to me than my own dad, knew him since i was 14. he died of lung cancer 2 yrs ago. the wall with that memorial had pics of actual soldiers from the war etched into it. very emotional for me.

I just went to the website. I have to find the original version though. Because this one was not edited the way I edit now.

Did you subscribe? Is this a website like DA? We can post photos and get comments on them?

soundzmedia In reply to Nirka [2007-05-06 22:17:57 +0000 UTC]

It's more like a site designed specifically for the purpose of getting your material printed on their print magazine. You can only vote on other people photos (yay or nay) and you can also favorite them. Votes will help you get published, but not necessarily. The editors ultimately decide. I subscribed, but you don't have to subscribe to submit photos

good depth of field. enough to be descriptive, but shallow enough to keep emphasis on the individual. what a face it is..

I live in the U.S and I see where you are coming from. The glory of the hero of battle is to be immortalized as a eternally sad statue.... I wonder if the people choosing these memorials even notice that the eternal edifice they set up is the definition of wandering sadness..... hmmmm... pondering

I only wish I had your skills...I wouldn't change a thing, but if I was held at gunpoint (NPI) I would have the trees more in focus...great job though...from the desc. I could not disern if this is a montage...interested though

Nirka In reply to LastChildOfIntegrity [2005-11-20 23:58:38 +0000 UTC]

Hi John! Thanks for your comment; it makes me ...
I don't have good skills. I need to improve a lot...
I actually think that the depth of field does a lot to the picture. By having the trees--hence soldiers on the background-- more in focus, I will lose the depth of field, and what I want to emphasize will be lost.
But I apreciate your comment.
Please come back! I like critics!!
Karine.

LastChildOfIntegrity In reply to Nirka [2005-11-21 03:23:07 +0000 UTC]

I agree with the point you make...If you were want to focus the soldiers in the back and not the trees you could select them with a lasso and sharpen them tad and then blur the tree a little in PS...Just a little tech insight...don't be offended please...it's as much to help myself see through fixing my own worx. Keep up the good work!

I really like this shot, the angle, lighting and contrast are all excellent. The depth of field is what really makes this shot. I've noticed that all the pictures worth looking at on this site only have a handful of views and few comments, yet pictures of an ugly dog get hundreds. I opened this because it is one of the best ive seen on this site in a while. well done.

Wow, tha'ts REALLY cool. I like how the extremely bright colors of the trees contrast with the black and white stone, but at the same time the blood color gives the same mood.

Great use of repetition and leading lines too.
