Tag: $180 -SOLD-Fear not kiddies, I'm not depressed or anything of that sort.
This was for a school-based competition (which never got entered cos the staff are slack and didn't get around to submitting any of the students work). We had to find another artists work (I chose [link] ) and recreate it by putting our own thourght and ideas into it.
Some of the themes we could choose from where:
Drug abuse Violence Teenage depressionThe little hearts are made of tissue, they where very ... interesting to cut out and glue on xD
yus yus, there is a bucket load of symbolism in this one, but i've lost the file that had it all and I can't be bothered to type it all out again.
Feel free to tell me your interpretations
I sold the original today, but I want to make a few more like this. <3
If anyone wants a print of this tell me and I will update it with a higher resolution pic.

It was done with mixed media, so I suppose I probably did use a little bit of pastel in there somewhere. Sorry for the vagueness, I did it around 8 years ago.
It's mostly acrylic though.

The entire painting is done using acrylic paint, besides the little hearts which where cut out of tissue.

That is because it was based off optiknerve-gr's munip as a requirement for a school competition. "We had to find another artists work (I chose [link] ) and recreate it."

Excellent interpretation of a silent illness. Interpretation to me? From the left comes an impending storm, you know it's creeping up on you, but you're never fully prepared for it. The landscape is dark, in reality, it may be very beautiful and green, but it's hard to find beauty during the storm. The red and blue liquids represent blood and tears, we all bleed, we all cry, and this illness can affect anyone at any time. I have a feeling you've either been touched by it at one time, or have someone close to you that has... Again, great work.

The top part is the life/color/happiness that is around her but her mind/mood/illness turn all that is good in the world in to darkness/woes/pain/tears...a wonderful representation of Depression.

The intention of the top part was the show her 'clouded' thoughts. The feeling you would get when you're just so sick and confused that it's hard to see or even think about whats going in, it feels like there is a constant fog in your brain. Or at least thats what it feels like for me

This image touched me deeply because for many years now I have been battling depression. I think you did wonderfull job in this work. The murky colours set the tone. You did beautifull play of the light and reflections on the eye as well as the scatter around the tear. I can see you spent a great amount of time on this work as well as a lot of thought.
There are two very distinct parts of the painting, top and bottom, and each could hold its own right. The top does bother me a bit because its not as moody as the bottom. I wish you wentmore in with the darks, and tied two by the tone more, especially because it looks more fluffy and clashes with dark atmosphere.
You have brilliant approach to tones in this work, where you do the undertones with the darks then paint over it with colour and then do the hilites. The heart shapes near the tear drop is wonderfull touch. I would never thought that they were cutouts from tissue. I do think its wonderfull painting, camera does it a bit of injustice. The teardrop is wonderfully executed. Well done!

I am really diggin on this one! I have to admit though, I hate it when teachers tell you to take an existing artwork and change it. I would much rather come up with something myself, it always felt like I was ripipng off the other artist. You've done an excellent job here I think. You have stayed true to your own style and managed to steer away from the original using different media and experimenting with colour.
