Description This was somewhat of a September 11th-inspired piece -- yet somehow benign, with an innocent airplane, and a calm moment...

I consider this one of my masterpieces. (I have it up on my wall on a plexiglass borderless frame.)

This was the first time I tried simulating rain with volumetric materials. and grass terrains. My goal was to make it seem as real and possible.
Personally, I like most of all the serene meld of elements -- like the way I got the clouds to blend with the moon, and the city to blend with the sky.

I later turned this into a host of other pieces, such as [Sayonee] and [ Twilight's Choreography].

It's well done! All the elements work together and it somehow avoids the fakey-3d quality. The rain is an inspired touch but it doesn't have enough depth, it looks like it's only raining a few feet in front of the viewer. I would have cheated and used 2d.

Darn, you saw right through the fact I used an infinite-length slab with only a small deph...

Do you know how long volumetric rain takes to renders? In retrospect, it would have been easier to make lots and lots of spheres and scattered them, heh.

I certainly do know that volumetric materials take a long time. Like I said, I would have put it in in 2d.

The rain looks a little like icicles falling but the depth, the colours and the feel of it are...highly uplifting. It's really beautiful in a melancholic way.

Nice!
First, it's a great composition. The mountains on both sides of the picture, enclosing the city in the background produce a cool impression.
And I like the materials you used. I don't know that much about 3D art, but it looks quiet picturesque in contrast to most 3D pictures I saw. That gives the objects IMHO a more natural look instead of that artificial metallic 3D surfaces.

very nice job. Like the city scape and the contrast with the natrual setting. I think the only thing that bothers me is the water. It could be a bit more clearer so that it reflects more clouds overhead. I think its just a bit blue. Great job btw, so keep up the good work!

Nope. =\ Seems like they were going mostly for super-photorealistic 3D art in the contest.
