EDIT: added merida's freckles
i watched the midnight showing of 'brave', and my muse demanded i draw this before i fall asleep
also beat my previous crossover i was gonna do 
this is also my own entry to the crossover contest at

two of my favorite princesses: merida from 'brave' and rapunzel from 'tangled'. this is a lot different than my usual stuff. i tried adding a ton more details than usual, actually painting the hair. merida's hair was SO MUCH FUN! i loved doing it
for being as freaking tired as i am (it's 5 am right now), i am very pleased with this outcome. lol, and no - this is no form of shipping nor are they naked - clothes are just not visible because i felt it would detract from the rest of the image since their outfits are slightly detailed.EDIT
lol, now that i'm awake, i'll go ahead and write more about rapunzel and merida
RAPUNZEL: i love rapunzel for so many reasons. first off, she's an artist, so i'm basically required to like her lol. i just thought she was so cute and sweet, and i loved that they didn't go overboard with the whole "she's new the world" thing, like ariel. she just feels down-to-earth for what she's gone through, and when she finally stands up to gothel (even though she get pwned lol), you can't help but be so proud of her
MERIDA: merida, merida, merida. boy...did i want her to get slapped in that film
i've heard a ton of people saying they love how independent, free-spirited, and tomboyish she is. she's actually almost none of these, and that's what makes her great. merida is a typical teen: entitled, know-it-all, and (at times) a spoiled brat. but that's why i LOVE her! the whole point of the film is how she's NOT independent. sure, she is free-spirited, but that free-spiritedness can easily be translated to being entitled in my opinion. my favorite part of her is how she is actually a little girl who doesn't know what she's doing at all. she may know how to shoot a bow and fight, but she has never been in a real battle and she has never experienced death. i won't spoil anything, but when she breaks down during battle and starts crying, that is when i fell in love with her. she's so real in the fact that she is a generic teenage girl. as much as i love other disney princesses, i can't really say i've ever connected with them. but merida's problems are real: quarreling with her mother over silly things when her mother is, in fact, correct and much more understanding than merida believes. i'm sure some people will complain about how whiny merida is, but if anyone who was ever a teenage girl can't argue that she's portrayed perfectly lol 
whole process: 3.5 hours - when i'm really inspired i work really fast. also, there wasn't much drawing involved since it's all hair lol.enjoy!

I can only imagine that based on what you said about Merida, that Belle didn't work out for you because she was too simple. Merida isn't simple, she's complex. My guess is that she learned that she needed to respect the opinions of others, not just herself.

belle is ok (she used to be my fav until rapunzel and merida) - i like her, but i agree she's a little simple. merida definitely isn't simple, and i think that's because the conflict of the film centers around her own struggles. films like 'beauty and beast' focus on the overlaying plot involving all the characters (aka, the curse and the rose and the fight with gaston, etc.). there was a little bit of focus on the characters (like belle realizing she actually loves the beast), but like i said - it's not something i can particularly identify with
i totally agree with you - merida realizing that she doesn't know all the answers to her own life is a huge part of the film's message

I do think Merida is trying to be independent, and she can also be an adept fighter. I don't think she's going to give up on her tomboy passion, but she'll probably have more respect for what her parents (especially her mother) do for her.
As for shipping, I actually think that it would be acceptable to call Merida a lesbian simply because her sexuality was never revealed. Not Rapunzel though, she's definitely straight.

she is TRYING to be independent, but so is every other teenage girl. and she'd never give up anything she's passionate about, especially since at the end of the film her mother embraces her for everything she is 
as for her sexuality - i have no desire to talk about it. the creators didn't say anything, so i personally don't believe in guessing, nor do i believe it matters to her character.

lol, i liked merida for the opposite reason - i loved how she was portrayed as a typical teenage girl: over-confident, entitled, and deep-down and scared little girl who needs her mother and father. in many ways, she's not independent at all, but that's what made her very realistic and me fall in love with her. i was actually afraid they'd make her generic tomboy who could do things on her own, but they didn't thankfully

True, true. Although she's not ALL independent, she does have a bit of a free spirit, and I admire that. Most teen girls would just accept whatever is handed to them, but not her.
