Another Monster Story: the Swamp Monster (pt. 1/3)   Everyone knew ‘bout the thing in the swamp. It weren’t just me that saw it at night, wanderin’ around and doin’ god knows what. Course, everyone saw it different. Some said it had eight eyes, others said twelve. Some said it had arms like a crawdad, others said it were more like a tree just started walkin around, with branches instead ‘f hands.
              Well, that’s what they saw. I don’t really KNOW what it is I saw, but let me tell you this – I saw it. And when seven or ten different honest to god types of men see the monster, you know it’s real. Or, you know you’re all crazy.
              I’ll let you choose for yerself which you think it is.
              I first hea Another Monster Story: the Swamp Monster (pt. 2/3)I don’t think I’ve heard a more terrifying sentiment than the one Old Man Vernon gave me before I set out. I’d almost gone and shot me some ducks or somethin’, just so’s I wasn’t the ONLY meat bag in the boat. But I didn’t wanna use up any bullets. I had my gun with me – a shotgun, which was a bit unfortunate, since it meant that I had to let the damned thing get pretty close before I could take a shot.
              Which led me to another thing – did I even WANNA shoot the swamp monster? I mean, sure it was rippin’ gators in half, but had it hurt anyone, really? Apart from scarin’ everyone half to death, but I don’t think scarin’ people’s really a crime when you’re a monster. I think if anything, you’re kinda entitled to it.
              So if I didn’t wa Another Monster Story: the Swamp Monster (pt 3/3)I had work to do past when the sun went down, but as soon as I was finished, I left. Vern hadn’t been too happy to hear how I’d taxed the motor on his boat last night, but when I’d said I’d pay for whatever fuel he needed, he’d consented to me borrowin’ it for one last night.
              This time, I took not only the shotgun but also a machete, layin’ both carefully at the bottom of the boat. I had no baseball cap, cuz I didn’t wanna ask Graham to give it back. But I did, for some reason, have that butterfly necklace. Nobody’d seen that I was wearin’ it. I kept it under my shirt. Doubtless if Pa or one of the boys had noticed, there would’ve been questions.
              Yeah, it’s odd for a man like me to wear a butterfly necklace. But somethin’ about it just seems good to have
