Description Photo study. Took me around 15h to finish. It was so fun and interesting and I think I learned a lot while painting this. Can't wait to do more.

This is the ref I used. My painting ended up mirrored, but I hope you can still compare it. i.pinimg.com/originals/15/8b/b…

I'm very eager to improve so all C&C are very welcome

Overall this is really good, I love how you did the cloud shadows and the general use of colour and lighting!

One thing I'd like to critique is the texture of the grass, especially on the nearest slopes. The shape of the surface makes it look like it should be short grass (which also fits the setting), but these long strokes you painted it with don't really get that texture across - they either read as long stalks, or even resemble the rock texture of the peaks further in the background.
Further in the background where the grassy areas intermingle with the rock, these curved lines almost make it appear like a liquid flowing down over the rocks. Unless that's what you were going for, maybe try shorter, straight strokes?

I love how you managed to convey depth with the perspective, the way the rocky peaks are outlined against the sky and blurred in places by the clouds. It looks like a lovely place!

Thank you so much for the critique. I see what you mean when you say grass looks too long. I'll try to play with it some more to see if I can improve it. I was maybe too focused on conveying the diagonal movement on the field so strokes are too long. I'll also keep in mind this "melting" of the grass over the rocks. I kinda like it and I will leave it for now, but on the next mountain I paint I'll definitely watch out for it. Thank you so much, this really helped me a lot. ^^

This is beautiful! To be 100% honest with you I thought it was a photo that you had taken but now I see (and after reading the description) that this is a painting that you did! I know that 15 hours is a lot of time but this looks amazing! I love how you used the different color and how you were able to get them just right! It looks like it should have taken more then just 15 hours but for 15 hours even strait is amazing! I also want to say thank you for adding a discretion so viewers know what they are looking at!

Nicely done!

Thank you so much! I'm happy I managed to capture the image in a believable way. Since I just recently started doing studies I'm trying to stay close to the reference for now. As I gain confidence in my technique I'll try to move away from the ref more and more.

normally I don't support artists copying things.  I mean a slight ref yes but  if you mirror the ref it looks VERY close, so it's merely copying. for photo study it's ok . but uploading and earning credits...I don't know.

But considering the fact that I really like the way you're drawing, I still like these pieces of photo study you do.

By now looking at the given "critiques". the first one giving nearly all stars for originalty while you didn't even create the motive but everyone saying it's a fair critique becasue they just say positive. But the real critique below, saying how critique should be constructive, getting many that say unfair? This is what I mean with "earning credits"

I do see your point but I'm trying to improve my skills and learn ways to draw things better. I don't go to

art school and I work from home so the feedback I get online is the only one I have. When I asked for critique

I hoped someone will give me useful tips or point out if I got something wrong or if there is a better way to render.

Of course I can't control what people say to me and how they rate the critique. Trust me, I much more appreciate

constructive critique than someone just saying "It's great" because I know I still have ways to improve.

It's very hard to judge objectively my own work since I spend so much time looking

at it so I don't think it's wrong to ask other people to look at it and say what they think.

Yeah but wouldnt you rather then need constructive critique on an own motive you chose without ref after you learned things from refs?

yeah my point is that people rate the critiques that say everything is nice and great, as fair while if you point out negative points too they click unfair. I see this a lot when people demand critique, the ones with full stars on everything is alwasy rated fair.

I think this is not respectful towards the artist

Oh, definitely, I would love constructive critique on everything I can get. I'm grateful to people for liking

my work and I don't want to be impolite and say the critique is not fair after somebody took time to

write it even if it doesn't actually help me. I know people get sensitive about those things.

I think this piece was the only one in my gallery for which I used that request option, finding it not so useful to bother doing it again.

It may be the nature of this site these days, you get a lot of "Amazing!" and "Great!" comments but if you want to have

some discussion or get some insight better go and chat with artist people on Discord of somewhere more personal like that.

Well, shoot, this just makes me want to play "Breath of the Wild again". It gives off this feeling of peace, but adventure all at once. Like wanting to breathe in the grassy wind and enjoy the stroll, but also itching to find out what's on the other side of those mountains. Beautiful!
