Sunset's Seat - Speedpaint
Into the setting sun.
A much more spontaneous piece after a while again!
Utterly inspired by the sky during one cloudy, windy sunset, I ran upstairs
into the room in our house that faces such an expanse, accompanied by
a large field, to paint what I saw.
After painting up the dark clouds I found a recent doodle in my pocket
sketchbook that featured a girl riding on a skinny, bat-winged dragon.
This dragon design has actually been one that I've doodled since mid-
2014; one of two dragon ideas that have been in development since
that time- I absolutely love the overall freedom there is when it comes
to designing them!
I didn't feel like it was right to keep the girl in the picture, though, so
I ended up just focusing on the dragon. Those scales took up more than
1/3 of the time..!

Seriously though, you make some good, no GORGEOUS drawings! Also, this painting really stood out to me, because I've never really seen something quite like this, mostly with the dragon, but it's hard to explain. Basically I've never seen a dragon fly in to a scenery like this. It's so beautiful though.

Having the dragon on its own is impressive enough! The colors here give a majestic atmosphere (at least to me); reminds me of flying scenes from "How To Train Your Dragon" or something like that.

Absolutely stunning! I've always had trouble painting that angle with the sunset above the clouds, haha, clearly you've got it down! There's something so magical about sunsets...

Yesss! It can be tricky, getting it right with the saturation and all. I still see places I could improve there already but it's really an enjoyable part to paint (as with working on light sources in general
