Glad I captured the jello-y feel, that was my main goal.

Sweet like jell-o. It's a weird feeling when you want to touch something in a picture.

More some drug dummy eh?
I mean will you ever get rid of those white stripes?
Amazing project anyways

We almost smoked tinfoils, did we not?
There are tons of designer drugs out on the streets.
Something about testing lsd on soldiers in the 60´s.
Just some unknown or secret agency is watching the
effects of new drugs on people... possible?

Thanks, I wanted to play up the gel a bit more but I learned a little. The original would make a great sculpture.
I can imagine the book you mention. Funny they took such care in photographing the objects.
You know what they say, the first bite is with the eye!

Thanks, I got carried away with the "study". I think the reference is a work of art, it's unfortunate that they hack it up with swords :]
Or maybe that is part of the art?

seelengrau In reply to nilwilnil [2019-06-09 18:41:13 +0000 UTC]
Yes perhaps, part of the process. Some art isn't made to last (long)

Awesome work... actually looks translucent. You captured the reflective sheen really well.

I think I did a mediocre job actually, but thanks.
Ha! Did you watch the reincarnation of the show?

thecamat In reply to nilwilnil [2019-06-09 06:40:45 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn’t say it’s mediocre, especially compared to most studies I’ve seen... which tend to consist primarily of line sketches and scribbles. I think your forms are slightly exaggerated here, but I assumed that was a stylistic choice?
No, I haven’t seen the new show yet. Heard it wasn’t too good.

nilwilnil In reply to thecamat [2019-06-09 06:49:50 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the new show wasn't very good. I'll leave it at that.
I focused on the effect, but I got a little obsessed with the realism as well.
I got obsessed with details too. My form is a bit off, agreed, but what did you notice?

thecamat In reply to nilwilnil [2019-06-09 06:57:00 +0000 UTC]
I have to say, it’s really damn close to the original, but there’s a very slight thinness to the head of yours... which I actually like. That’s why I thought it was a stylistic choice. Everything else, even your colors, are spot-on!

nilwilnil In reply to thecamat [2019-06-09 08:18:10 +0000 UTC]
I made stylistic strokes at first but my obsession with accuracy took over in the end,
I tried to retain some style but got carried away. I painted this side by side (no trace or tricks.)
Actually, the one trick I used was some color picking.
I didn't intend to copy the original but I obviously did in the end. I partly lost sight of style ;]

It does have a slight stylistic flair, but I like that, as I mentioned! I can also see that you kept very close to the original reference, though. Closer than I would, for sure... I use references as well, of course, but I end up going off into tangents as I draw. I tend to choose certain areas for reference, like a hand or a general pose idea, but I fill in my own details or extend/exaggerate certain areas.

Sad to say that when it came and I set it all up, No backlit keyboard....
I don't mind typo mistakes, it is enough that you make beautiful art....

Get your money back or get it replaced!
A backlit keyboard seems a vanity but for me it is useful.
I like to paint in the dark, just the monitor's light, so a lit keyboard would be great.
Alas, I'm poor, can't afford the things I want ;]
