Description Two days before the Wedding, the 'Haldi (Turmeric) Ceremony' is performed.

The women from the bride's family apply a paste of haldi and oil on the bride's face, arms and feet.

The Mehndi Ceremony is held on the morning before the Wedding (or one day before).

A paste of henna is applied in traditional designs on the palms and feet of the bride, and all the women from her side, by professional 'mehendiwallis'.

This is really beautiful. I do mehndi patterns on my own hands from time to time. It's a little harder doing it yourself though.

Whoa, doing it yourself... it must be really difficult...are you ambidextrous?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Tineswari In reply to nikhil [2009-10-15 02:05:21 +0000 UTC]

Nah I'm not ambidextrous (I wish I was!)... I'm right handed.

When I do my mehndi patterns, I start with my left hand first, then try to mirror it on my right hand. Of course, my right hand ends up looking less than perfect haha...

i've been to a few mehndis and it was always my favorite part about the whole 4 part theme though one was pakistani and the other indian, i love the focus on the pattern and tha ngle at which it's taken.

Beautiful work with DOF. I like the contrast of the everyday with the extraordinary intricacies of the henna work. The simplicity of the ladies because of their abstract out of focus hints at a larger truth revealed through the art on the ones hands. Very nice work.

I love the angle in which the shot has been taken, with "Mehendi" in the main veiw. Not only that, still now I havent seen a picture where our Indian tradition has been given preference. Its only scenery, poverty but not the culture & the respect we have for others through them. Even if its there its very few. Anyways, its a beautiful piece & I love it.

Aapne bohut aacha shot lia hain. Wakt ke saath aur badia.Comment daar se dena ke lia maaf karna.

Hey, thanks a lot for giving me an insight into my own photography...I dont really have a pre conceived agenda when I shoot any photograph...but glad you think this is an another way of looking at our indian culture. Thanks a lot once again.

Its not about agenda, its more about the choice or likings..

Anyways you have a great gallery! I hope I will see more beautiful pieces in near future..
