The styles vary and highly depend on the species or theme.
Certificates actually works really, really well if there IS a specific species.
Beautiful colors and decorated layout with clear info help boost the certiifcate.
I'm currently working on five of them for commission.
These are just basic layouts usually called "skeleton designs"

This is kinda obvious but do not steal the skeletons...I might be doing this as future commissions.
ANYWAYS
After you figured out the layout you wanted
I suggest to test it out with the text you wanted like I did in the links above
From there themes...themes...and think more themes Q.Q
Take the basic format and decorate it.
it helps if you know someone who’s a graphic designer to give critiques and more pointers
I highly suggest to test the text placement again cause the decoration could be covered slightly.
ALWAYS put the text on TOP of the certificate.
NEVER ever below the certificate layer.
The pet or human can be below or above the certificate layer.
It took me 3 months to design and color my current pet certificate.
I am in week 3 in the commission for the 5 certs...so yeah...my brain is rather fried.

Certs on adoptables are rare, fyi.
Like I said, certificates are common place in GaiaOnline.
I'm probably the extremely rare variety doing that here in DA.
I think the reason is because people just want to give out the adopts.
They're are selling designs so buyers can do whatever to them.
And certing every adopt takes time and patience to do.
Believe me, I have 7 hoodchies to cert - change names, owners, and pet image on Each every time.
I cannot really allow buyers do a lot with the hoodchie simply because the species are NOT mine. Also, I just find people faving the adoption sheet really messy Q.Q I mean, how am i suppose to know who the new owner is if I suddenly receive a message? And there's just some who'll just put the adoption sheet in favorite folder to forget who the original designer was. orz The certificate serves the purpose of a reminder where the pet is from and etc. etc.

3 weeks is not as painful...just designing things are painful because I'm an amateur graphic designer haha I'm more a drawer than a graphic designer. And my creative stats sucks so I hope doing adoptables will help boost my creativity.

yeah that can take time. Even designing randomly those adoptables and even finding the right layout for it that you might use all the time.
That's why I'm trying to do. Finding a nice selling sheet layout (that is done)
But such a certification should be nice also I mean, then I know the owners DO something with them like giving a name and what they're owner could be in family ship or let a pet for a character on they're own.
I know, you gave credit. I try to make adoptables of my own rare species I've randomly create in 2011 or 2012. Like my Alarrior Monsters, Nymphs bases on Rayman Origins. my Cute Chibi Kitten style I normally draw Sonic characters in. I can use those, make random designs and sell them as adoptables.
Everyone does it different, but I want it sorted and official like it's a real pet's place where you adopt a real puppy XD

Adopt Custom Trade is simply trading customs to each other.
Like I do a custom hoodchie for you
AND you do a custom creature of yours for me~
An adopt collab is basically art collaboration.
One artist does the designing while the other colors
OR
Artist [A] design a top row
while Artist [B] design the bottom row
When they are finish, they note each other their designs
Then Artist [A] colors the bottom row
while Artist [B] colors the top row.
Either way, after both artists finish,
they compile the images together
and do an auction or a set price.
When that is finish, the points or money is split in half ~
It's a great project to do with someone
It'll test your skills or boost your skills
in designing and choosing color palettes ~
Alllssoooo~ it's a nice thing to do with friends
or making new friends ^__~
