Description Happy Saturday, folks!Β

I haven't forgotten about today's #inktober2017 drawing, but as I finish it up, I thought I'd offer some more inks but of another kind. The kind that have to do with my passion and work of love dedicated to The Lord of the Rings and J.R.R Tolkien's mythology.

You'll remember that a while back, I gave myself the asignment of illustrating the book as if it was just another gig. For a long time, ever since I read this mighty tome, I'd been daunted by any attempts at interpreting the material with what I deemed were clumsy skills. Especially considering all of the amazingly great illustrators that had gone into Middle earth and come out with such wonderful visions of it. But there's always time to step back and jump into a challenge, which I did and to my surprise the results weren't half bad. In fact, the support from all of you encouraged me even more. So now, as I read the book once again (an annual committment I always enjoy!), I'll be sharing more and more imagery from that beautiful landscape that the Professor painted for us

This is a study concerning Aragorn, which I did in the heat of the moment as I approach Helm's Deep in my reading. I still have a long way to go if I'm to follow the chronological chapter order I started with a few months back, but I couldn't resist visiting this most heroic figure and test how he'd look in my style, stripped of any influences except Tolkien's description.

As usual, I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!

Nic.-

PS.. I'll make a point of adding links to the other images I've done, but I need more time than I have now, so if you have a care, search in my Gallery

I don't think I will ever tire of seeing artist's do original takes of JRR Tolkien's iconic characters. This is a worthy Strider. A true ranger of the north.

Thank you, my friend! As I've mentioned, I was always deathly afraid of touching Tolkien's work, but in overcoming my fears I found a deeper meaning to his work and how it affects mine that I didn't even know it was there.

He was great indeed; and if you loved him in the movies, the book's original will blow your mind.

Very nice! I remember when I first read 'The Fellowship of the Ring' (back around '97 or '98, good gosh it's been a long time); when Strider was first introduced, I was so suspicious of him. It took me almost as long as Sam to actually start trusting him. This drawing perfectly captures that first impression: the weathered, slightly creepy guy in the corner who might be good but probably isn't, who looks foul until you get to know him a little and realize that he feels fair.Β

Thank you, karina! I was also pretty distrustful of Strider in their first encounter; but then again, after all the company had been through at that point and Gandalf's warnings, it seemed like a wise thing to do to distrust the foul-looking ranger. But he proved to be one, if not the, most honorable guy around

Β Very Good, Master Nicolas - this Strider has the right balance of quite patrician features and the weathered look that keeps the casual glance from noticing them (it might interest you to know that almost since one first discovered Sir Christopher Lee's fondness for THE LORD OF THE RINGS I have been struck with the thought that he would have made an Excellent Aragorn, since he could look at once subtly regal and a little villainous).

I'd never seen that picture of the great Sir Christopher Lee, but you're absolutely right that he would've made an excellent Aragorn!

Β Well when you're over six feet tall, a descendant of Charlemagne AND a former commando it's hard to argue that you'd make the perfect Ranger of the North!Β
