The thing about people in paintings: IF as the figure in black is, anonymous, in watercolor, you should make just 2 marks one for the head in a skin color and the other unattached in another color in a single stroke much like a chinese watercolor painting.
If you make the figure look like a spirit more than a person, the viewer will cast himself or herself in the role. The lighter you make it by tone, the happier it is. You can make a triangle stroke in that shape as one stroke and then very gently drop a concentrated color for the legs and it will read a jeans or pants without changing the mood.
I will try some and post examples later this week.
