Description
General information
[ Name ]
While he doesn't have a real name, he calls himself 'Ku' or 'Ryu' which makes more sense, since it is short for 'Ryujin', his species' name.
[ Alias/ Nicknames ]
The second son, Gatherer, etc...
[ Age/ Age Equivalent ]
This species doesn't age, they care not for age anyway. These dragons care for how much in your life you have gathered spirits (to be explained in 'species')
And gathering is not in one dragon's hand when to decide, it's all in instinct. So far, Ryu has gathered 1000 spirits which is a very 'fresh' and young number.
How old is he exactly cannot be pinned, the 2nd Ryojin dragons' souls are always new to the world, never been there before, and Ryu's soul is new and fresh. And for human times his soul stays ABOUT a century, a low lifespan for a dragon like the 2nd Ryojin. So he is most definitely considered a 'teen' for humans.
(For the picky: every 5.5 human years is one for the second sons, Ryu lived a 100 years, with math, he is 18 human years old.)
[ Date of Birth ]
Saturday, January 28
[ Nationality ]
Chinese
[ Species/ Ethnicity ]
The second sons / Ryojin
[ Height ]
Human form: 6'0"
Dragon form: 20 ft
[ Weight ]

Dragon: 350 lb
[ Personality ]
| Kind | Clueless | Quiet | Polite | Calm | Stoic | Forgetful | Curious | Selfless |
Ryu or Ku doesn't stand out from most of the second sons, he is born to behave this way. However, most seem unaware that they are suppose to be this way, unlike Ku who seems to slowly wake up to reality and get a grab of who he might be in the near future, especially now that he is more than any other dragon is surrounded by social people.
[ History ]
-The species' history:
>>Origins:
The wars going on within China and then Japan tired out its people, destroyed so many things and even killed most of the mythical souls we are told now that they used to live. And it was for true. To save the people of these countries and to keep great legends going on, the last of the Chinese dragons from China and the Ryojin dragons from Japan breathed out their souls to create a new and fresh one, the dragons now known as the 2nd Ryojins. With the body of the great Chinese dragon and the ability to transform into a beautiful human this species was unique.
These dragons were of peace, or so, what they were originally going to be.
With other dragons gone the 2nd Ryojins were used by emperors and leaders in wars, using the MASKS of Heiwa(peace) and Sensō(war) on them as a way to control these 'beasts'. And it went on for so many years, their original reason for existing ignored. Until one day it was all... calm. Wars calmed down and these dragons were few, yes, but free once again.
These dragons are located around the biggest rivers in both Japan and China, mostly China. Doing what they are suppose to do.
>>Reasons for existing:
The Ryojin dragons are here for many reasons, they have the traits form both of the original dragons and many qualities in them to mention.
Now united these traits help the dragon to:
1- Call out for the souls, using a flute, and then lead them all over the world to set them free and make new lives when they turn into their dragon's form.
2- Seek out the old souls of the ancient dragons in the sky.
3- Protect the people, for they, are the spirits of peace.
The second sons have many abilities too, please read in 'Abilities'
>>Name origins:
Mainly known as second sons because they are basically the next generation of the dragons from China and Japan, and the second Ryojins because they can turn into humans, their main forms, and live on and beside rivers.
>>Duties:
For each dragon there is a specific unknown time for them to call out for these souls and lead them around the earth. No they cannot tell when, but they feel it. To call out for souls one must first enter blessed waters, for example a lake or a river mixed with a drop of the 'original blessed water', as a human then use their flute to attract the attention of these orbs. Once done, the dragon will transform into its dragon form, in the waters while wearing the mask of peace. NOW in the air, the dragon will follow a couple of other dragon's souls to tell their ways around earth. They also need to be carrying the wooden statue, while flying around to lead all the spirits/orbs.
This small effigy's original name is unknown, however, the dragons realize its importance, they call it now 'Moonsong'. Once in 'teen years' a dragon will receive a handmade one by another dragon, or as they call then 'an effigy maker second son', bless it with spraying water on it, and then give it to a gatherer, such as Ku/Ryu, to call out for the orbs and spread them around the world.
The lights coming form this statue attracts the orbs and make them follow the flying dragon.
Once this duty is done new lives would be made and the dragon lands back on the earth as a human again. Proud of their handiwork.
HOWEVER, some dragons, unlike Ku, do not gather souls. They instead stay at their regions to protect people and nature. They are the common ones to exist between the second sons. Then there are the effigy makers, skilled with wood they create basic or creative objects of wood, asides from the effigy itself. These type of the second sons rarely transform into their dragon form and are rarely found among the second sons.
WAR now is not one of the dragon's 'duties' it originally never was, but humans made it so for a couple of years...
>>Nature:
These dragons were suppose to be pure, peaceful, and spiritual. As they still are! They were only FORCED to forget about their true nature when the humans controlled them using masks of War. But now they are back to what they were---
AS A HUMAN:
The sons are polite, quiet, wise and very kind. These poor souls care not for any materialistic things, money being the main thing they care less for.
They respect people, their thoughts and beliefs and much more.
BUT considering the dragon's blood running through them even as humans they know so little of 'human needs' and even feelings as they find them unfamiliar and unknown each time they transform into a dragon and back into a human (which happens frequently)
They cannot name what they are physically or emotionally feeling. But surely can be taught, they are fast learners.
Ryu for example; he soon realized that as a human he cannot go for too long without drinking and eating and start drawing schedules for that.
AS A DRAGON:
They will forget about everything they once knew as a human, once in a dragon's form, they will not remember faces, memories or anything of that and will behave 100% like a real dragon. These spiritual animals will do you no harm, if as a human and before transforming the human form of this dragon remembers to wear its mask of peace.
IF NOT THEN TROUBLE WILL HAPPEN;;; This dragon will not remember you in its form UNLESS you save it from danger WHILE it is still in its dragon form. They'd owe you forever and WILL remember you even if they turn into a dragon again.
Worry not for Ku forgetting about you, sure, as all he must forget everything as a dragon but he will remember everything again when he goes back to his original human form. THOUGH he'd find it hard once again to adjust to his human needs after not needing any of that in his dragon form;;;
So in short; The second sons aren't suppose to be humans, they hold nothing of the human kind within them other than their secondary form. They are pure spirits of peace and servants to the world.
>>Breeding:
Unlike most, the second sons don't breed through sexual intercourses. They are not real creatures after all but more of spirits. And considering that unlike any other soul a dragon's soul can never come back to earth as a new dragon once it's dead there is no way that the nowadays dragons are the recyclable creations of the older souls. It's really a mystery how one dragon is born, even to the second sons. They don't know and for some reason don't question it... they exist to serve not to question.
However nowadays with the numbers of dragons are going down so much and suddenly the dragons started behaving more like... humans. Each starting to stand out with a certain personality and starting to question many things, one of which would be Ryu who started questioning the dragon's disappearances and actually taking actions to discover what is going on.
-Ryu's past:
Ryu isn't so special and doesn't stand out, well, compared to all the other second sons. However, he, is one of the first few who remained not missing, stuck to his group on the Chinese river AND AT the same time started developing human like feelings, while HE doesn't notice it nor question it, he does sometimes feel the need to develop a hobby of his own, the need of doing something rather personal for once, instead of serving the world...
Well, all of that went unnoticed by both himself and his people of the same kind.
It's scary to be suddenly something different than what he is suppose to be, no doubt that he wouldn't know how to deal with his new human like needs and emotions. He doesn't know why he started to feel like this, why he started to wake up to things he has never noticed before, and why he is keeping so quiet about all of this...
[ Attending the Academy ]
An academy you say?
Well, Ryu was one of the first few who started to obtain these crazy feelings, but that one lucky dragon to receive that invitation. One day and beside the river, Ryu got the invitation and was extremely confused on what to do... He even felt a little flattered, not only he was asked to join, but also received a letter, silly little detail actually made him happy, how much he appreciated it.
'You woke up to the world, Ryu, or at least you started to... do not waste your abilities, make them grow, answer all your questions, and save your own kind.'
He'd think that this is for the best, knowing what is happening to the missing dragons and what causes them to go... will be able to save his kind. So off he went, he will try his hardest, and often one dragon's best is more than enough.
[ Ability(ies) / Power(s) ]
- The dragon form:
It's easy, instead of the Ryojin's dragon body, the 2nd sons take the form of a Chinese dragon. This transformation can be done ONLY in blessed waters, that is a Ryojin mixed method. Blessed waters can be found in places such as one of these big rivers in China or Japan where these dragons are located, OR the dragon takes a small flask, fill it with these waters and then drops only a single drop into any other kind of water and then it will be available for usage. The transformation however is NOT permanent, one dragon knows exactly how much water they need to be soaked in for their journey. They cannot really tell you, they just kinda know... it's instinct.
As a dragon these sons WILL NOT remember anything from their human lives and will behave like a real dragon doing its duty, so it is important to remember to wear the mask of PEACE as a human before transforming or ELSE the dragon WILL hurt people who are not Chinese or Japanese. It is a thing not in their control, it is how they were taught to think with all the wars they were forced to take a part of.
They avoid the mask of WAR as much as they can, it is even destroyed, they say, but who knows when one will find a new mask of war....
- Blind/Ghost eyes:
This ability is only available when transforming into their dragon forms.
Little did you know that the Chinese dragon can see the souls or different living species and even other dragons. The souls or 'spirits' are the none wandering souls of who have died, they appear as a floating glowing orbs of some sorts when its 'owner' dies. These souls are, well, recyclable, to be blunt. Meaning that they will never take form of the creature's body it left, it may have lived for so many years in many shapes and forms. And will be sent back down on earth to make a new life, from an old soul.
DRAGON'S souls however are never recyclable. They are ancient, true and royal. These souls are each for a dragon, and they keep flying in the air once their body dead. Usually they guide the dragon flying in the sky, no they do not speak. But one dragon can tell each soul is from where. Rarely the dragon gets lost!
And now the Ryojin's traits found in the second sons:
- Spirit summoning:
And since the BLIND EYE ability helps this dragon tons and tons, now they can see the flying orbs/souls of dead creatures. No they do not 'create' new souls. They just call for the wandering orbs, and then set them free to make new lives. THEY however cannot call STUCK souls such as ghosts, they can't even see them. Ghosts are such a scary mystery, even for them.
- Healing spring transforming:
As mentioned earlier in 'The dragon form' these sons cannot transform unless in blessed waters. THIS is a mixed ability between both a Chinese dragon (for the body) and a Ryojin (needing water)
These waters I speak of may heal the wounds of a dragon and any other species. It is truly blessed.
Now to be more specific with Ryu!
For the Blind/Ghost eyes ability:
Ryu can see the flying orbs just fine, it is instinct after all. However he still is learning about from where each dragon's soul come from, it is still confusing for him when he is flying.
The dragon form:
It works just fine only when needed, he tends to try and avoid this but he feels somewhat obliged to transform often, he cannot tell why though.
Spirit summoning:
It is not so often that he can do that, it takes so much patience and time, he realizes that. His last summoning was many many years ago.
Healing spring transforming:
While this really isn't an ability but more likely a thing he and anybody can do, it still considered something special for the second sons. For he and his species are the only one to be able to access blessed waters and use it to their advantages.
[ Items / Belongings ]
-A wooden summoning flute: a normal flute that CAN be changed if later on blessed with water.
-'Moonsing' effigy:
-Mask of Heiwa(Peace): To be drawn
-A flask of blessed water: full of waters from his motherland china, from the rivers he used to live on.
-Twin Chinese swords: He thought he'd need these for training?
[ Weakness(es)/Downside(s)/ Allergies/ Health Concern(s) ]
Being unable to soak in the blessed water every few weeks will weaken the dragon, go further than that and it will destroy the soul, never for it to come back again, not as a human and not even as a soul.
To avoid such a problem and since Ryu is quite aware of it, he brought along that flask of blessed water from is home land, upon the river. Often, one drop is enough to purify a whole lake, as mentioned before. The lake would stay pure for a day or so, used carefully for his needs. However, Ryu will have to transform into his dragon form and fly off to his home land if he feels the flask will soon not be aught of use. So he goes to fill it up to the brim once more and comes back, usually, in a day or less.
Also, Ku tends to be forgetful to fulfill his HUMAN needs, if he dies as a human ALL of his memories will be wiped clean and he will get a new human form than the last one. That is why Ku has a very strict scheduled for him to stay health and feel great!
(For the picky: It takes exactly 7 weeks, 4 days, 2 hours and 30 minutes for a dragon to die if they go that long without blessed waters. It is extremely rare for a dragon to die of such a thing though, it is instinct after all that tells them when to get the water, how to use it, and when they have had enough.)
[ Guide / Familiar / Pet ]

[ Extras ]
- Ryu has developed a liking to woodmaking, strange because he was one of the few first who kind of went against who they were they born to be, he is suppose to be a gatherer, but he wanted to be an effigy maker.
- Who he is suppose to be and now that he does his job as a gatherer didn't stop him from developing a HOBBY. Which is creating wooden crafts. It fills him with a human kind of happiness which he describes as incredible. Not many dragons decide to focus or even bother to try out something new and personal such as a hobby, so Kyu is one of the many firsts.
- The reason why the dragon's are disappearing it's because it's time for them to go... some die and some were set free to be normal humans. None of the dragons know about that. As mentioned nobody thought of breaking their reason of existing and behaving outside of their created box. Little did they know that slowly and some of them without even noticing are starting to be set free, such as Ryu here. Imagine how heartbreaking it is to know it's time to go and leave behind who you were suppose to be. Ryu would find it super hard to let go, as so many of the dragons too...
- it is made a crystal clear image that the second sons were none but tools. Used and born to be used. While the never question it, if you ever were to set them free into the human world to act like one they'd be lost. They never once thought about themselves, never once decided not to serve but be served. So selfless, these creatures. And Ryu is not a stranger to these feelings.
