How much preparation did this take and what were the circumstances of the shoot?

Not much. Wet my hair, rubbed makeup on my face, went in the back garden and took it, haha! It was overcast, good time to take photos.

Seriously though, overcast is good? I thought sunny is the tits this season, more vibrant colours and all that, no? Care to elaborate, I got a lot to learn.

I feel that when it's too bright outside shadows become too harsh, some people probably enjoy working with that and the lighting it creates but I'm not a fan of trying to fight with the sun, haha!

That's true, soft and scattered sunlight is best in most situations, and I'm not big into HDR photography to battle stark contrasts. I'll be using overcast days more.
