Concept art for a captain of a pirate ship. As usual the rough work is in my scraps. Oh and if anybody is curious about any of techniques I will gladly share them.Painted in photoshop, except her skin which I painted in Painter.
edit: fixed shadows on her face, fixed angle of her sowrd (i hope)

your style's really eye catching. Its seems quick yet detailed, and there's something about the colours that just seem to work with it all. awesome!

your coloring style is flawless honestly~ I can't get over how nice it looks.

To be honest, with the elaborate tail feathers, the parrot looks more like a freakishly awesome cross between a Parrot and a Bird-of-Paradise, with the colors just screaming "Captain Morgan Commecial Gone Right!". As for the Captain herself, the outfit is creative at worst, a masterpiece at best. Skin-tones absolutely blow mine out of the water, rivalling the work of dA's greatest masters of this sort of thing, while your cartoonish cast to her face gives you a streak of individuality and originality. The sword simply rocks, as the hand-guard itself looks more like a shield than a mere handguard, protecting the Captain from enemy weapons, rather than just her hand.
On dA, you appear to be about to rock, and we salute you.
(See the work of for pointers on adding a touch of realism to the face, besides what others have already suggested. And keep up your good work with birds... matter of fact, you need to teach me how to draw good feathers, I find the feathers drawn by the above-mentioned artist too simplistic. Perhaps a tutorial on feathers [and how to arrange them on a wing] is in order?
