HUMONGOUS EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!: I didn't expect this to end up in Daily Deviation. And yes, silly me I should have done a proper reference/credit due to Blizzard, I don't own any of their artworks, but I do love their work. Should I have counted as lucky to even end up in DD??? Thanks alot!

Hit download for more details.

This one's a personal project that was started in September, but was not completed by then before college started. 3 months on hold and continued during this term's break.

Kind of happy with it in the beginning, then the more I looked at it, the more I feel ... I think it's an artist thing.
Next up, Sarah Kerrigan!

Credits:
-The original piece of artwork is by Blizzard Entertainment used in the start-up of Starcraft II.
-Jim Raynor and Starcraft belong to Blizzard Entertainment.
-I do not own any of their concepts or characters.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Duration: I lost track. Doable within 30 hours I suppose.

Medium: Mixed media - 2H pencil for sketch. Daler Rowney watercolour for base, Staedtler Aquarell Watercolour Pencils, White Gel Pen for highlights.

Touch up on Photoshop CS5 to restore colours that the bloody scanner destroyed.

Yours sincerely,
Kyle

I'm sorry, but I see this and the only thing I can think of is the acid trip sequence from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Something about the combination of a close up on an astronaut face and the slightly odd color balance and saturation.

Aya, honestly thought dA had made a horrible mistake and daily deviated an art thief, but then I saw the pencil work when I clicked in on this deviation. Wonderful work, cite references please.

NezoElyk In reply to CJaneway [2011-12-29 03:52:32 +0000 UTC]

Never knew it'd end up in daily deviation. It was silly of me not to cite it.

It's now fixed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Why is blatant theft considered a daily deviation?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

GarudaX In reply to eliminatrix [2011-12-29 07:46:32 +0000 UTC]

It's not stolen actually.
Compare it to the photo. There are noticable differences. [link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

eliminatrix In reply to GarudaX [2011-12-29 09:08:15 +0000 UTC]

But it still needs to be sourced accurately. If I make my own sketch of a work by Leonardo DaVinci or Picasso, I *must* cite where it was sketched from, who created the *original* piece of work.
Otherwise it is clearly theft.

I don't know mate, never intend to have it landed in DD. I feel sinned.

Technique seems awesome. Originality is down to pretty much nothing though. As was stated, it's a copy of another artwork. You should indeed state your references. Sorry for being so blunt, but you don't want this coming back at you in a very official way by the original artist.

Still, great work, love the detail, and the pencil grain definitely makes this reproduction special.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NezoElyk In reply to FrostBlast [2011-12-29 03:58:19 +0000 UTC]

No, it's alright. It's correct for you to state my mistake.

Thanks for the compliments and apologies to a thousand people that thinks I'm an art thief now.

FrostBlast In reply to NezoElyk [2011-12-29 04:51:36 +0000 UTC]

I started reading down the comments page and... wow...

However people might bitch about you having no skill, let them go get bent. Most of them wouldn't do half as good even if they did trace it from the original.

And if it's any help at all :

β€œImagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
- Albert Einstein

Yes, I know of this quote from Albert and I find that it's what I should constantly remind myself to do.

Your words are most helpful when some others are very discouraging. Thanks a lot.

FrostBlast In reply to NezoElyk [2011-12-29 04:46:32 +0000 UTC]

You're no art thief, maybe you just didn't realize the extent of not stating your source. On the internet, intellectual property is a subject of **major** debates. Just don't forget to be careful about it or you might come across a guy who actually sues you. And then things start to suck. You have talent, I wouldn't want to see you going through this...

UnburntDaenerys [2011-12-29 00:05:22 +0000 UTC]

You should probably cite your reference, as it is an exact copy of official StarCraft II artwork.

Most of DD's given to traditional drawings are a big piece of shit, people who dont deserve it. But THIS Is something beautifull ... i can see a lot of dedication from your part, your shading is almost perfect and of course you are a fan of Starcraft as much as myself. This is one of the few DD i see that are VERY WELL DESERVED. You deserve it indeed. Congratulations my friend, you are so lucky to have a DD... anyways, we are proud of you.

Please, dont stop drawing.
