Description To the people who flame every picture that says "pray for Japan" they see,

People who pray are not as stupid as you'd like to think we are.

We weren't born yesterday. We know that a country that has been through a disaster needs food and shelter. We know that donating money is a big help. Just because we believe in the power of prayer doesn't mean we scoff the power of relief efforts.

Quit assuming that everybody who suggest prayer is sitting on a pile of cash, asking God to send somebody else because they'd rather buy the next issue of Shonen Jump. Quit assuming that everybody who suggests prayer is self righteous and is refusing to do anything else. Those assumptions are wrong.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of Godly organizations that go to countries in crisis with provisions, housing support, AND prayer. Habitat for Humanity , World Vision, and The Salvation Army just to name a few.

Just because we don't get out a megaphone and shout about how much we've donated doesn't mean we haven't donated anything. The Bible states the importance of helping those in need multiple times. It also says not to brag about it.

So then, why DO we pray? Because we want the opportunity to help more. We pray for more opportunities to donate, the funds to donate, and that others will donate. We pray for people who are hurting as the world around them crumbles to see that there is hope. And from personal experience, prayer works, but nobody is forcing you to pray.

So yeah. I cant speak for everyone, but plenty of "religious nuts" are doing just a little good for the world after disasters, both with provisions AND prayer.

And we'll keep praying that all of us, no matter what our beliefs, have opportunities to help during this crisis, because what matters most right now is that Japan receives all the help it can.

"And from personal experience, prayer works."

Sure. Next time try addressing your prayers to a jug of milk, and you will see it has the same effect as praying to yahweh: sometimes your prayer is answered, other times you have to wait for an answer, and other times you will not get what you prayed for because the jug of milk knows best.

It's good that you actually donated, because doing tangible actions like that is what actually helps others, not superstitions like praying.

If what I am doing has no affect on the universe, why are you so angry about it that you feel the need to gripe at me for posting about it in my little corner of the internet? What exactly are you afraid of?

"If what I am doing has no (effect) on the universe, why are you so angry about it that you feel the need to gripe at me for posting about it in my little corner of the internet?"

Because the spread of misinformation and superstitions in this modern age sickens me.

"What exactly are you afraid of?"

I don't understand that question. What would I be afraid of? And why? I don't get it.

Hehe. Like what my sensei (teacher) said back in High School:
"At least you knew it was wrong." Then he said something like this: "It's a good part of learning, and a very good way."
So don't worry.

Yeah, I took Japanese back in high school too, hence being so embarrassed to spell such a common word's romanji wrong. Maybe I should have just looked up the hirigana and used that. XD

But like you said, mistakes lead to lessons.

LUCKY!!!!!!!
My High School doesn't have Japanese courses!
I've always wanted to learn Japanese some where official like.
But since we don't have that anywhere where I live (sadly), I try my best to study for myself.
(After all, I have some actual Japanese friends and we talk on Facebook and they help me out...sometimes...I try not to bug them though...I don't like bugging people Unless I'm VERY VERY bored and do it just for the fun. )

THANK YOU !

I agree completely. One-hundred percent. Prayer isn't going to rise a house from the ground up. Prayer isn't going to conjure food out of thin air. Physically, it doesn't do much.

But from my own experience, prayer does wonders, emotionally. Knowing people were praying for me gave me hope and strength. It made me realize I'm not alone, that people care about me, even complete strangers. They want to help me, and I believe thoroughly that helping a person emotionally and mentally is just as important as helping them physically. I've never been in a disaster — not even a minor one — but I know I'd be grateful if people cared enough to keep thinking about me and the people around me while we're in danger and need help. It won't keep me warm, physically, but mentally, I'd feel safe and healthy. Because, what use is my physically rescued body if my mind already gave up and died?

I'm not rich, over here. I'm an unemployed kid. If I had bags of cash to offer, I WOULD. But I can't. I'll give them what I can, but I've gotta look out for me, too. If everybody gave all their food to the people who need it right now, the people who gave it would starve, and then who would be left to give to those who still need it?

Gahh, this ran on a little. I just wanted to say thank you, because I'm just glad to finally find somebody who gets it ;u;.

Yeah, I should know. I'm a Youtube lurker, and I saw comments like "F%^k praying; donate instead".

I feel that this is a spit in the face off those who believe in God or religion in general.

You could always respond "do both if you can".

We like to think that for the past 2000 years Christianity has gained ground and become a world known, world practiced religion but far from it. We had become complacent, now no one really knows what it IS to be Christian, what it means, and people have all sorts of odd ideas stuck in their head because the Christians THEY know are the corrupted televangelists, the bombers and crazies who are "killing in the name of God", those people protesting funerals, weddings, etc.

Very sad, but that's how the world ends up seeing is all.

People in Japan are saying "Pray for Japan." I know because I subcribe to an online store there and they sent out an email saying that their company is doing fine. At the end of the email they said "Continue praying for Japan." So, they are noticing God at work!
