Great design, your line work is also very impressive!

Is the project all your idea? Is it also something that is available now or still in progress if I may ask?

Thank you! Β Yeah it's been something I've been noodling on for awhile. Β Most the stuff I make for it now are super rough and kept to myself in sketchbooks and such. Β I'd like to make it into a game some day, but it's probably not gonna be for awhile since I already work in a game studio.

Fair enough, I've mostly just been sketching myself. It'd be cool to see you do a kind of game in the future that deals with your mecha's,
I think it would catch on with your designs and color schemes.

Which company do you work for if I may ask?

I've been working at a studio in Seattle called Z2 for the last 5 years. Β Z2 was actually bought out by King last year, and then King was bought out by Activision Blizzard late last year. Β I worked on Battle Nations for 4 years and I'm currently working on Paradise Bay. Β

Maybe we'll do a Mecha game next. Β That would be rad.

That would be pretty rad, hoping the best comes true for ya', it would be neat to see more of these designs in future games!

Hey! Anyone else think that this almost looks like Alex and Dog from the Half-Life series? Anyways, great job creator (I forgot to look at the creator's username)

Hi James! I used your conceptart to make a rigged 3D mesh.
You can find the vid here:Β youtu.be/P-maGp6T9io

Let me know if I interpreted the concept right. It was kind of tricky to figure out the shoulders

Hi Jessie! Β It looks pretty awesome so far! Β The top section needs to be sized up a bit and I pictured the arms would be a bit more cylindrical. . .I didn't do the best job implying that part in the concept lol. Β When I get some time, I'll quickly draw out the arms to give a better visual example

Thanks for the response ^^
I never would've guessed the arms were actually cylinders xD
It was quite a challenge to figure out how the arms moved as well. Do they also rotate on multiple axis at the elbow?

No problem!Β  I made some quick sketches to illustrate how the arm works and to show the volumes.Β  It's basically a henge system, so nothing too fancey lol
Here's the link!

Lemme know if you have anymore questions

I do actually how does the "wrist" work? can it rotate by itself as well?
I tried putting an IK on the arm but it just breaks the whole system since the wrist can't actually rotate xD

In any case.. it'll take a while before I get back to the rig since I just started another project with a friend. (Petrol/Blood contest on Polycount)
Who knows, I might be able to do it in my spare time ^^

Yeah that sounds about right lol.Β  It looked correct the way you rigged the wrists!

Take your time, no rush!Β  I think it's pretty awesome to see this concept taken to 3D

So were your concepts not meant for a 3D environment then?
cuz that would be a total shame in a way
Now that I'm taking a closer look at your deviantart, you have so much cool stuff that could be put into 3D pretty easily.

I grew up in the SNES era, so a lot of my concepts are inspired by 2D games back in the day.Β  A lot of GBA games (Advance Wars, Pokemon, FFTA) are also very influential as well.Β  While I made some pixel art in-game mockups for Robot Quest, I could totally see it brought to 3d as well after playing games like A Link Between Worlds, Bravely Default, or Pokemon X/Y on the 3DS.

I currently work on an ongoing 2D game (Battle Nations), but I know there's been some interest around the company for me to do concepts on future 3D games.Β  Either way, it's all pretty fun stuff!

Wow I'd love to see the future game you'll be working on ^^
RobotQuest looks amazing as well btw. even for a pixelgame it certainly has readable conceptart.
I think it's nice that you're able to work on games similar to your inspiration.

Mmm, nice.Β  I still think the robot should be about 10-20% larger...if it has a crew cockpit.Β  (Or is it more of a rigger and drone combination, with a dismounted controller huddling behind the nearest available cover once the fireworks start?)
