Here's the quick story: Ryde lived a normal life until he learned the hard way how unmerciful the Irken government was. (his family was killed when he was 12 in Earth Years by and explosion, and his face was burned, but all the other Irkens on board were rude about not helping him. Later, he paid more attention to how the Tallest ruled and decided he didn't want to live in the Irken society.) He decided he would leave the armada and go fight with the resistance with the Vortians and such. but when he came upon their ship to join them, they didn't believe him and took him as a prisoner. There met Livv, who took a liking to him before anyone else, despite her family being killed in the invasion of Vort. When there was an attack on that particular ship from some Irkens, Ryde broke loose and killed some to save them, thus finally proving himself to them and finally joining their team. Therefore, he's a little ashamed to be an Irken which is why he hides his antennae, and also he has an Irken tattoo on his neck XP he keeps covered with the collar, too.

He usually keeps his antennae tucked in his collar moost of the time, btw, but in this pic one fell out and since I he can't easily put it back he just keeps it lowered. (i realize antennae arent just Irken, but I CAN BE CREATIVE.)

also, he's a pretty serious guy.
