Description An alternative take on the brilliant detective. An English, steampunk-enhanced super intelligent man of action. Too sarcastic and self-absorbed for his own good, he jumps from rooftop to rooftop to catch criminals for cash. Yes I know he's not caucasian, it is on purpose, since there's so few black videogame characters that aren't horrible stereotypes.

This took me all week!
I'm still not completely happy, because I haven't checked all pixel clusters -because this is huge...

20 colors, and it took me 2 days just to keep the palette to a minimum. This is well within the capabilities of the SNES (less than 16 colors for background and, less than 16 colors for the sprites) , but if I were to develop it, I would do it on a newer system, so as to have parallax scrolling with 3 layers instead of 2.

The fairy on the speech bubble is a nod to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's infamous obsession with fairies and the supernatural. Plus, it helps the victorian feel. For which I looked at every victorian and gothic architecture reference I could find. This is not the real London. And the Westminster Abbey clock tower isn't this huge, or steampunk modified. I'm going for drama here, thinking larger than life, hopefully.

If this game existed, I would definitely play it. And, I must ask, why doesn't it exist already? Probably because its win is too big for any game system in existence. c:

c: you're so sweet ^-^

No, it's basically because I'm lazy and unorganized and could never pull off a whole game without a sponsor lol.
But seriously, you're the sweetest

this looks great! Can't help thinking of that hand launching like a grappling hook ala bionic commando!

...someone needs to make this.

also, non-caucasian Holmes don't matter when it looks this good! ...plus I'm sure people have taken greater liberties with the character...

This is some kind of new art that sprung up while I was gone lol. I do understand why exists but I dont understand how its so hard. I'll admit that its very well painted and even with the constraints its still excellent. But maybe I dont totally understand why the limitations. Dont most of the commonly used mobile devices have 32bit color? Maybe its some kind of self imposed masochistic fun for people that are too good at normal painting?

Uh, wow...

(And this looks more like something that would be on the Gameboy Advance rather than the SNES. It's got more of that color tone/feel to it)

Great job separating the layers of action here! Very impressed with the left clock face and the purple 'mid-ground' background, some beautiful detail going on there while firmly keeping itself distinct from the games action. Character is nicely made and the mechanical hand is a lovely touch, enjoying the fan/wing/sail under the platform there too. The projected bit on the clock towers left face (lower projection, the upper looks like a cool balcony) is a bit hard to read, not sure what I'm looking at, probably only stopped to wonder because the shading/lighting doesn't blend as well as the other elements so it looks a tad out of place (shadows are a tad banded and the dark line at its top looks like it should be a highlight rather than a dark color judging by the light source on the main tower). The right clock face and the little windows on the roof above it could do with a little touch over to even up some pixels, the pixelling of the further away purple layer is so clean it brings attention to that tower. Enjoying the architecture, the scene and the vibe from this as a whole, with a little more foreground action (possible objects or people to interact with or investigate) this would look truly alive as a game scene.

Oh and a tiny nitpick, the arrow on the dialog box (which has a lovely frame) points down in most games I am familiar with, could just be me but the right pointing looks a tad unusual for that reason to me, try flipping it if you go back to this piece any and see what you like best Pardon what might seem like a lot of crit, just some thoughts on a few small things, this is a great piece of pixelwork!
