I think you have done a good job with the background.
I can tell that this image is based off the theatrical release poster and not from the scene in the movie because your blue flowers line up with the movie poster and the flowers are not in the movie. Also, another huge difference is that Mei is missing.
I'm not pointing this out as a fault, more just my observation. There is nothing wrong with the image you chose to follow.
I really do like this piece and it's pretty impressive considering it's the first major background you've done.
