Description        "Has anybody seen Lisbon?" Jane asked, stretched out on his couch.  "There was something I wanted to talk to her about."

"She went into the lounge while you were napping and now she's in her office again," Cho informed him.

"Thanks."  Jane slowly stood up, getting all loosened up after his long nap on the couch.  He walked over to Lisbon's office and knocked on the door.  "Lisbon?"

"Hmm?"  Lisbon opened the door a crack.

"Hi."

"Go away."  Lisbon shut the door again, nearly pinching Jane's nose in it.

"Talk to you later."  Jane didn't really care if Lisbon heard him, but he hoped she did.  He walked into the lounge to make himself a cup of tea.  Tea always made waiting for things easier.

A few long minutes later, or what felt more like hours, Lisbon emerged from her office.  She looked ready to go home.  Jane saw his chance and dashed to her side within seconds.  "Hello again."

"What do you want?" Lisbon asked, sounding crankier than usual, and she also looked like she'd been crying.  Something must be bothering her then, and something big.  She always had been really good at hiding her bad side, most of the time at least.  Was he really being that irritating?

"There's something I want to talk to you about."

"You can save it until after the holidays, can't you?"

"Not really, no.  You going home?"

"Yes."

"May I accompany you there, milady?"

"No."

"Please."  Jane tried to give Lisbon his best sad puppy dog eyes.  "I'm not sure I want you to be alone tonight."

"...Whatever."

"Thanks.  Let me just get my coat.  I won't be a minute."  Jane ran up to his room and grabbed his coat, making sure the gift he'd gotten for Lisbon was safe in one of the pockets.  He went back downstairs.  "Ladies first.  See you there."  Jane followed Lisbon outside, fishing his car keys out of his pocket.  He really hoped he could cheer Lisbon up, with or without the added bonus from his gift.

Lisbon collapsed onto the sofa in her house, patiently waiting for Jane to show up.  She began to question how he knew that she didn't want to be alone tonight, but then she remembered who she was dealing with.

Jane sauntered up to Lisbon's door as soon as he arrived at her place.  He knocked on the door.  "Hey Lisbon, I'm here."  He waited patiently until she came to the door.  He followed her inside, taking out his gift.  He sat next to her on the sofa.  "What's been buggin' ya today?"

"You know how it's almost Christmas...well, with dad being the way he was, sometimes it wasn't like the ideal Christmas.  So every few years, I don't always think happy thoughts during the season.  Today happened to be during one of those years."

"I'm sorry about that.  I think I've got something that might cheer you up, besides me being here."

"Is that supposed to cheer me up?"

"It doesn't?"

"Maybe it does."

"Well, good."  Jane handed his gift over to Lisbon.  "I hope you like it."

Lisbon carefully unwrapped the paper on the gift, revealing a small box that usually held jewelry.  What could it be?  She opened the box almost hesitantly.  It was a ruby necklace, a very beautiful one.  It also looked very, very expensive.  "Where did you...this is gorgeous."

"So you like it?"

"Of course I do.  Thanks so much, Jane."

"It's no problem.  Really.  Also, I have something to tell you."

"Oh, right that.  The important thing."

"Um...I...I don't know how to go about this."

"Just take a deep breath or something."

"That'll work."  Jane closed his eyes and took a deep breath.  "I...I love you."

"But what about your wife?"

"I still love her, of course.  But I also love you, and you're not seeing anyone at the moment, that I'm aware of at least."

"You're right, I'm not seeing anyone."

"Great."

"So are we going to just sit around and talk all night?"

"What do you mean by tha..."  Jane's heart nearly skipped a beat as Lisbon leaned in to kiss him.  When it was all over and done with, he could do nothing more than turn his head away and blush.

"Merry Christmas, Jane."
