Description A little bit of Reos art payment! I was tempted to make this Djamila’s Initial Class Quest, but I wanted to wait and keep things a bit more canon in her timeline for that c; I also didn’t want to kidnap WhimsicalCrystal ’s character for too many lore shenanigans haha! I hope you guys like the little glimpse into her lore regardless

Literature
Foreign birds sang in high, unfamiliar trees. The view of the sky was covered in a way that Djamila knew from the city back home, but not from nature. Not ever from the desert. Every so often those tall, coarse trees hid the afternoon sky as she passed through the Roenden forest. It was still light out, but there was a wild taste in the wind. It told her that if the blizzards here were even a fraction as dangerous as desert storms back home, she would have to find shelter soon.

Djamila had by now spent enough time in the Roenden woods to have become highly aware of how snow might keep potentially useful things secret under its weight, similar to the sands back home. That was, of course, after she had become accustomed to just how deep it could become or how slippery ice could be after it had thawed and refrozen. Or how the air was so cold and brittle that it made tracking scents properly near impossible for her. Sometimes Djamila had the feeling of being blind, even -and especially on- the brightest of days.
As the slowly rising wind rustled through the leaves, she inspected the snowy ground around her carefully. She couldn’t afford to miss anything just because it was hidden from her immediate view. This applied both to the mysterious artefact she had been sent to find here in the first place by the city guard council, as well as the much-needed shelter today. She paused, briefly, on top of a handful of boulders. Even the rock seemed to be rapidly cooling, having already forgotten the sunshine mere hours earlier. Neither the half-frozen lake nor the dense trees offered any insight on where to settle down for the duration- but perhaps the stones themselves could offer a crevice to squeeze into.

She jumped off the boulders and circled the area slowly. The stones layered criss-cross over each other looked promising enough. And indeed, there looked to be a small space in between the rock. But instead of an empty cave, upon nearing the entrance, she was met with a startled-looking, bright blue reosean.

“Peace,” Djamila called to the stranger as she stumbled to back off. The other vayron watched her warily, uncoiling himself from his snug position in the small space. She paused at a more reasonable distance, half out of the cave, as she took him in. His bright blue coat almost glimmered in the rapidly waning light, and had she come across him anywhere but the cave, she reasoned that he would be starkly and immediately visible against the snow. While guarded, he didn’t look it be hostile or out to defend the cave to the death. Her heart still pounded from the surprise, but she managed a smile.

“My name is Djamila. Thedale-born,” she said still cautious. “I didn’t mean to ambush you there- I’m only passing through this forest. It just seems… it looks like we have found the same resting spot for the night,” she said sheepishly. “If you’re amenable, might we share the space for the night?”

The stranger’s voice, as he spoke, had a low cadence to it. “Lucian,” he as the tension in his posture lessened with his nod toward her and he settled into a more relaxed position. He cocked his head and eyed the travel bags she’d been carrying. “You’re a traveller? If there’s any food in those bags, I might be convinced to share my luxurious abode,” he said lightly.

Djamila presented the meat jerky from her hometown with a grin, taking one strip to chew on for herself and gestured for him to take his fill. “You’re lucky to have found the cave when you did,” Lucien mused as he inspected the dried meats with interest. “There seems to be a storm underway. It would have been dangerous had you been caught up in it.”

The storm howled outside but the cave, entrance swiftly covered with masses of snow, but the space inside warming with the combined body heat felt cozy and safe. Though it had been far from night-time, the two strangers nodded off eventually. It was only hours after the storm had settled down that they dug their way out to the sight of a bright blue sky and the largest Roenden creature Djamila had ever seen in her life.
