Name: José Moreira de Suerte

Age: 33 years old

Date of birth: 27 July 1979

Place of birth: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Nationality: Brazilian

Height: 5'6” - 1m72

Weight: 147lbs - 67kg

Eye color: Yellow

Prefered Class: Sniper

Weapons:
-A IMBELL MD-2, his first riffle, given to him by his mentor, using it rarely
-A Barrett REC7 he acquired after his first rifle and before the third one, a spare rifle
-A M110 SASS he offered himself when he rejoined the Agency, his weapon by default

Ability: Friction Manipulation
Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and/or material elements sliding against each other. José can make things "sticky" or "slippery", including himself.
The connection is from a part of his body to another surface. He works on the particles level. The complexity of the interactions friction doesn't allow him to understand how does his power work.

-Advantages: For the immediate applications, it can prevent him from slipping on floor or surfaces he is supporting himself on, move things easily by making them slippery, or on the contrary make his rifle sticky not to let it fall from his hands. . He can stick to walls and even walk on them. His ability helps him to dodge incoming physical attacks; getting punched, or getting caught. His power lasts the time he is in contact with the chosen object, skin to skin.

-Limits: First, he has to be in direct contact with the chosen object. The manipulation is restricted to solid and non animated objects -his own body being an exception-. For example, José can change the friction of a person's clothes by touching them, but not the person itself. His interaction includes only his target and him, that is to say that he cannot manipulate the friction of two objects from afar without including himself in the equation. Also, he can't be “sticky”on one part of his body and “slippery” on another part at the same time. His power is something innate to him, he controls it with his mind, and he didn't find -yet- how to work on his power to improve it. And while this ability is handy, especially for physical attacks, he is still weak to fire, explosions, drowning, or any non-physical attack.

Personality: José is a calm and collected man, a smile stuck on his face, and friendly with everyone. Everyone is nice everyone is kind. Well, the ones not trying to attempt to someone's life. For him, life is precious, a gift from God, and everyone has his place on earth. Asides from the bad guys of course. Often acting like a 20 years-old young man, he is aware of his lack of education and tries to cover it whenever he is in front of someone more knowledgeable than him. His rifles are his little babies, and snipers are the best. Period. No need to argue. They are. A children lover, while he never got the opportunity to have a close relationship with a woman enough to build a family. He is hetero and weak to women's charms; not against gay people even if his religion says the contrary. Behind the fervent catholic is hidden a real hippie. That's José.

History:
Born in a poor district of Rio de Janeiro, José is the only son of a young woman. She loved the father, barely not son. Hopefully, José is raised by his grandmother, long enough to make her someone precious to him. Soon enough, his power reveals itself. Still unaware of it, the young boy is using his ability to rob and play. The grown man he will become, will have a cruel view on his early years on this earth... Endlessly thinking about how he was just part of the cattle the poor people of his country were. One day, his mother comes with a stranger. The man talks a lot and seems nervous. José doesn't like him, but Mother wants him to go with the man. José cries and yells when the stranger carries him out of the house, knocks him out and launches him in a car. The back of his mother is the last memory he will record from her.
When he wakes up, José is in a room with other kids, a bunch of them. He cannot tell, he doesn't know how to count. They all are afraid, barely clothed, hungry... and drugged, just like him. Drugged? Something he can't tell already. Something he will learn later from someone else, as well as the fact that the children have been bought from their parents by an international circle of pedophilia. Shortly afterwards, he loses consciousness. When he wakes up, the children has disappeared. He is in another room, laying on a bed. A man is looking down at him.
“Don't be afraid. You're the chosen one. We will purge the world.”
The man's name is Guilherme. He explains that he bought José because he saw something in his eyes. That he will do big things with him. The young boy can feel that the man is sick, he is not talking like a normal person, shivering all the time, often looking away while thinking. But he is nice, he gives him food and everything he needs. Maybe he will bring him back to home?

18 years later, José is still living with Guilherme. The man raised him, in his own way: beliefs in an international holy war for a religion José never managed to decipher, a basic education -which will lead him to have an inferiority feeling even nowadays-, and the teaching of snipping. And José is skilled. Gifted. The disciple never told his mentor that he had this power, that he could play with friction. The origins of the young man's dexterity with rifles didn't seem to bother Guilherme, as long as his chosen one kept dazzling him. They will do great things, and eradicate the impure souls of the world. José's view on his kidnapper/mentor didn't evolved since, it worsened. He doesn't hate him, but doesn't like him neither, as he still feel being used, like a cattle. And actually, it's his growing -and sick- fascination for rifles which enabled him to stay as sane as he could be. He adapted himself to survive. One day, actually on July 27 his birthday, José kills Guilherme. Out of the blue. One bullet between the two eyes. Without emotion. He then takes his favorite gun and leaves the house they were living in. An hour later, far away from the corpse, not knowing where to go, and after killing few other persons, he stops walking, and bursts out laughing. That's it, he got rid of his last chains, he surpassed the master. He felt...alive. Not a part of the cattle anymore, he went against his mentor and by killing him, he assumed himself as a human able of expressing his opinions and his feelings. Yes, for José, using his rifle is his way to say that he is human. And targeting someone becomes a way to put said target at the same level as him, who deserves the most respectful death possible. “Look, I am a human just like you, by shooting at you, I recognize you as one of the human beings cast.” Laughs. “I will take your life. Die as a human, and raise me up.”

"Kill a man and you're a murderer, kill many and you're a conqueror, kill them all, you're a god" Jean Rostand

5 years later, José is 27, and changed since. During the 5 years, he met with someone making him eager to be a better man, and to fight his obsession with shooting at people: God. The religion of his grand-mother. Talking about his family, he never found his mother, nor his beloved grandma. José joins the Brazilian military and tries to become a better man. After 6 years of loyal service in the army of his country, where he will sharpen his education, his faith, and globally his knowledge of a more normal life than the one he spend with Guilherme. His fascination for killing is still here, and will be awoken during a bloody event.
A spree killer attacks the population of Rio de Janeiro and already killed a dozen of persons. José's sniper squad is sent to neutralize him. Hopefully they will succeed, but one of José's lost bullets hit a little boy. The child will die hours later. The result of an internal trial in the army will fire José from the only job he managed to keep for years. But more than his lost dream work, the sight of the little lifeless body, and the heated gaze of the crying mother on him... The disappointed eyes of his colleagues, his hierarchy... For the first time he didn't feel happiness from killing someone, just, shame. A deep shame.

”I know, by experience, that one shouldn't look at them [the victims.] It's easier to kill the ones we don't know.” Albert Camus

That boy reminded him of him as a child, it could have been him at his place. His mother would have cried like the one of the little boy, for him?

”Killing makes deaths come back, more than never.” Johan Theorin

He will think a lot about his mother, his grand-mother, himself. His passions, his life. And wondering how did he reach that point where the purpose of his whole existence has been just blown away.

”Why killing?
To survive.
And why surviving? To kill?”
René Barjavel

Pointless...

6 years later, José is 33, and the Agency contacted him. Within the 6 years, he made a pause of several years from snipping. Months before joining the Agency, he went back to the passion which built him and made him the man he is now. The fascination for killing is still here, remaining in one part of his mind, but scarring him too much to let it take the control. He forgave himself, and saw the fact that the Agency contacted him as a way to devote his life to protect the weak, the harmless, the children.

Trivia:
-de Suerte is not part of his official last name, he self-added it around his 30s
-dyslexic, will try to avoid reading and writing as much as possible
-eats a lot, a real man should have at least 5 meals a day
-has an afro when his hair untied
-will not tell but complexing on his height
