Description For my luffly:
You've waited a long time dear, I hope you like him!

Galaxy is a gorgeous fellow I've wanted to paint for a long time, he was challenging at times, but truly a lot of fun to do. I adore starry, galaxy, bluey stuff!
I think I've discovered how to do better hair jobs now too. O.o Yay!

Poor Camo had to keep putting me back on the right track.
"How...how about a big, fluffy, fantasy hairjob?"
"No Dwarf, normal hair."
"...but....how about a long, flowy, fantasy hairjob?"
"NO DWARF NORMAL HAIR"
*pout*
"How 'bout a big glowy lantern too?"
"No Dwarf, just the horse."
*pouts again*

Anyways, I might be able to do a commission (after I finish a batch of bacgrounds I'm doing for someone) depending on what you were thinking. Feel free to send me note!

I think you should have gone with the long, flowy, fantasy hairjob, personally. And the big glowy lantern. But that's okay, you kind of made the horse into the glowy lantern instead.

This is really lovely, great job on the motion of the hair! I'm looking at the reference and back to your picture and I'm trying to decide if the legs look a little short compared to the size of the head, which is what the photograph looks like too, and I'm trying to work out if it's the particular angle or posture or what... I'm not sure, but I tend to think that there are oddities in some photographs which, when illustrated, can seem a little more quirky than they should in drawn form - a good example of this is when you illustrate even the tallest model who happens to be in a strange posture and it can make her limbs seem stubby without the context of the photograph's setting and background. Maybe that's what's bothering me about the drawing, no background. Even though I really like it as a standalone graphic.

AHEM. That was a ramble. I do like the way you've handled the galaxy texture, that's really lovely.

I'm sorry for not replying earlier, but I wanted to wait until I felt I had something to say other than just thank you.

I do know what you mean, it's a weird phenomenon with horses that when they draw their legs up I've also noticed that they then look far shorter than they should. >.> But that doesn't excuse the front legs, I knew there was something wrong with them but I never truly figured out what it was. Β Unfortunately I only noticed it after I was into the shading, a big lesson to me to make sure my shapes are right BEFORE I shade. Β I've played around with them, and something must be too short or too long somewhere. D: Or maybe I connected them to the shoulder at the wrong place and that throws it off. Hopefully once I'm more experienced with anatomy I can come back and see what's wrong and how to fix it.

I've seen oddities like you've described in photos too, and I've decided to try not to go the route of: 'but that's what it looks like in the picture!' but instead do whatever needs doing to make it right for the art. I suppose this is a really bad time to say that, since there IS something wrong with this one, lol. Hopefully it works out in the future though. xD

Thank you so much for the kind words!

Don't worry!

Here's a tip - if you want to easily spot mistakes or oddities in a digital painting, flip it over horizontally. This 'mirror image' view will bring to your attention a lot of things you might not have noticed, otherwise. You can also flip the painting vertically and see if it still makes sense or looks reasonably well balanced when upside down. If you're doing a traditional painting, you can hold it up to the mirror to the same effect to spot mistakes.

That can help you decide what to do with your initial shapes and can remove a lot of frustration. I make a habit of flipping my images frequently just to check up on them.

Hope all that helps!
