Description It's no secret that tigers are on the brink of extinction in the wild. A hundred years ago or so, approximately 100,000 tigers were roaming through Asia. Today, this number has declined to an estimated 2,000-3,000. This is sad beyond belief, the following story in yesterday's Guardian notwithstanding:

www.theguardian.com/environmen… According to this article, the numbers of wild tigers has increased from ~1,700 in 2011 to 2,200 in 2014 in India. If this is true AND can be maintained or further improved, it may be time to become a little more optimistic, although I have read similar stories before...

I deliberately darkened this shot by setting the exposure to –1 stop to fit the theme.

This is, by the way, a female Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) residing in the zoo of Leipzig, Germany

She is so beautiful!
Tigers are like my second favorite animals in the world!
I love how you dimmed lights to give it a more majestic look.
Her eyes just feel to me that they're showing you the world.
It's so sad how there are endangered but I'm glad that there population is slowly rising, it gives me some hope in our humanity.
The ripples in the water add a great affect and her fur is like glowing in the darkness.
There's just something about tigers that make me feel powerful and peaceful!
And thank you bringing more awareness out there!

This deserves an 100%

Bald also mehr......

Thank you so much. Do you find it unacceptably dark? I deliberately changed the exposure to minus one stop...

I have to agree it is really dark. I'd definitely have to say it takes away from the image being so dark.

I'll think about it! It's just that there are so many tiger shots out there in bright colors (and I have myself posted some of them, hehe), and with tigers being nocturnal animals, I just thought it might be a good idea to show them in a slightly different way.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.
