The dark reds throughout the piece really make it. Rich and bloody.

So stunningly dark and beautiful. Your attention to detail (the texture of the bloody stump of the neck and the way the blood runs down her arm) is spectacular.

That's awesome. I've seen a few of your tutorials before but how much work do you do in Painter versus using Photoshop? I have both and I've always found it a bit more difficult to use Painter intuitively since a lot of brushes like to smudge a lot when blending.

It depends on the piece! Sometimes I don't take it in to Painter until the last 25%, other times I jump back and forth constantly and the image is about 50-50. I usually hover around only the oils, pastels/chalks, and palette knives, but I'm writing a class on both programs right now so it's forcing me to explore Painter much deeper. Maybe I'll do some Painter-only images afterwards. But for now when I want to avoid smudginess, I opt for the oil pastels.

That's interesting because I'm trying to translate my oil painting roots to a digital form in Painter but when I use their brushes it just ends up being smudgy and I don't like it.

I may try oil pastels and chalk and mix it in, just to see.

Thanks.

I'd be interested in taking a digital painting class. How is teaching going? I bet it's pretty fun.

It has its ups and downs, haha. I'm an online instructor for the Academy of Art University's graduate illustration program.

That's awesome. I may check it out. I know there are a few online degrees and classes geared towards digital painting, so I'm glad to see it's steadily picking up online.

And yeah, Painter can be a jerk at times.

I love the subtle texture and
the contrast between the saturated background and muted figure is quite unusual!
Good choice to put the moon in the bottom corner -really pulls the composition together.
You could have incorporated some of those background colours into the fabric to make it more lively.
