Description Hi, I went out to South End Pond yesterday morning.Wow it was wicked cold...1 degree F ,and we had a constant 15 Mph wind... so it felt  so much colder than the temp. When I got to the ponds edge, I saw 2 Eagles, a mature male and a young one. I didn't get any good pics of the older one, and I was just about ready to pack it in, when this young one comes out of a pine tree. I never noticed it before.  I got a few flying pics and then it starts to circle the pond on the very far edge shoreline. I got a pic of it flying low over the ice and then one of it as it landed and just sat there...Enjoy!

Thank you Iris!

Tomorrow I have to shoot my friend Keith's Ice Fishing Derby on this pond.... I can tell you one thing I will be bundled up like crazy.....yup I'll be out on the ice, winds around 20 mph, and temps not much higher than today. I'm charging all my camera batteries now,  I went and bought new batteries for my electric socks and gloves and I'm putting on my thickest sweater over a flannel shirt with thermal long johns under neath it all... I may not be able to move very fast or get up if I fall down , but the derby is  6 hours long and I have to be there the beginning to the end,.... to shoot the winners pictures, and derby highlights  for his web site..... what we do for a friend ....right?

Hi George,
Well good look with that one......
Be careful on the ice, you don't want them hot socks melting
it....
Hope the sun comes out for you all, and you can
get some great shots.
Happy Fishing.

Good shot of the immature one here. Their coloring makes them hard to get good shots of.

Hi, Thanks .. this one was sneaky..stayed hidden while the older one flew off....If I hadn't hung around a bit, I would've missed seeing it.

Nice! What lens are you using... I know eagles like their privacy.

Hi, Thank you!

this day I was shooting my Sigma 50 - 500mm lens...light weight and it gives good sharp pics.... and the variable zoom comes in handy when out shooting in cold weather as you just don't know what you'll find. I like it for scenic pics and this gives me a chance to comp the pic in the camera without having to back up.

Good news.  Couldn't have reached him with my 70-300.  It is good, but a little short for most birds, even hawks and eagles. Once in a while I get lucky and meet an obliging fellow, but not often. The artic blast has left us, so take heart, warmer temps are on their way.  I'm in the great lakes area, and get to enjoy them before you... ha ha.

Hi, I love my 70-300mm lens....it's perfect for close quarters shooting of birds in the hedge rows and for animals in the woods and marsh... I get to leave the tripod at home, and the camera swings just like a pistol..light and quick.you might miss a few distant pics, but overall it's a super lens set up.
