I use both, charcoals and pencils. Those in the picture are common colored pencils. I sometimes use charcoal pencils too, but not often. I'm a newcomer in coloring with pastels and pencils...not so much experience yet

Well, for a new comer, you've done splendidly! Not many artists can pick up an unfamiliar media and apply it. I'm not so great with dry mediums like charcoal and pastel, mostly because I like tight lines and such. I also am TERRIBLE about posting.... lol but I have been working with traditional Japanese watercolor on rice paper. That has been a thrilling journey, most definitely! So what is your technique for such pictures using pastels?

Oh, are you painting 'sumi-e'? That's amazing! I love watercolor and oils but I'm not a very patient person so...and an oil painting requires so much time to be completely done. It's not for me But I use watercolors quite often!

Yes!  

Well, I have come down with a chronic case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which has effected my usual pen and ink art... so I've been attempting to be looser. I have always liked painting, but I like controlling my media to a T. I'm weird like that I guess haha give me a sec and I'll post one for you to see.

I'm sorry to know about the Carpal Tunnel trouble...I so understand you, I suffered from some health issue this year and that avoided me to draw and paint as much as I would liked to do...sigh! Anyway, never give up!

It's the worst isn't it? I'm sorry you had to go through that. It is not ideal at all! I wish I could take medicine that would magically make it disappear!

Just got some given to me as a birthday present, myself. I must admit, you've rather tempted me to try using them, but I should probably get better at using pastels themselves, first. ^^"
