Every year, in mid-August, the Perseids meteor shower hits its peak. One can look to the sky and see 80 or more meteors per hour. I'm lucky enough to live in an area that still has some dark sky left, so I set off for Rocky Mountain National Park to document this amazing event. In this image you can see two Perseid meteors on each side of the milky way, which was particularly bright this night, due to an early moonset.

How long of an exposure do you have to have for something like this? I've heard of film plates being used for science study of meteor showers, but how do you get your photos of this?

I love this! I tried to get a pic of meteors during the draconids, but no luck The perseids were really good for me too, but I didn't know how to take long-exposure pics in august

its really good. even better that you got 2! that's gotta be really rare unless it's a very active meteor shower or if you're out trying for a really long time

I won't lie, the meteors didn't really register much with me, but this is an absolutely gorgeous picture of the Milky Way! Wish my camera could take pictures like that. Hoping to try my hand at skyscapes and such like this soon as I get a decent camera!
