Oh my--
Seriously, this sounds too good to be true. Flatting is, well, I swear a kitten dies every time I have to, but I still flat for an hour thirty everyday, anyway.

Yup, that's the way to do it. If you're working with original cans, you can skip the Threshold step by just scanning in as 1-bit Line Art at 600dpi or more.

Hey, thankyou for the tutorial, it was very informative.
However, if you don't mind. I have a few dumb questions I need to ask..so if you find the time to answer them, I would really appreciate it.
1 - How do you know what resolution (?) is 600 dpi? The reason it's confusing to me, is if you scan, you can scan at that resolution but then the computer does the work for you..so if you're starting from scratch, how do you know what size--resolution is what? (As you can tell, I don't know what I'm talking about here. )
2 - I was thinking of doing a manga..and I wanted to make them so I could put them on the web, but also having the option of printing later. I think you answered someone that at 600 dpi..it would have to be shrunk down to 100 dpi in order to be able to do that. (Which obviously, until I under stand the dpi system, I don't know what the difference would be.) Or is it possible I misunderstood somehow?
3 - I've noticed you've also mentioned Tokyopop..and how they require such a high dpi, but even you don't go that extreme. (Why is that btw? I looked for the journal where you were supposed to have mentioned it, but I couldn't find it.) However, is their page sizes correct? What would you recommend a good page size for the standard small book manga? If I'm going to do it, I want to make sure I do it properly. Lol.
4 - I noticed you also mentioned Fruits Basket! That style is one of my favorites! I believe you mentioned the mangaka inks with solid lines, but because the small lines are darkened a lot, they appear wispy on print size?
5 - Lastly. I've also noticed you've had quite a few discussions with people about how this tutorial is beneficial/not so beneficial. Is there anything others have said that I should know? A lot of them say this isn't good to learn because of various reasons. (Most importantly it's a bad method for a picture with lots of details..?)
Anyway, I'm very sorry this is so long. And I understand if you don't have the time to answer these. But as someone who's both a noob and not a noob, I felt like it'd be better ask someone who really knows what they're doing before attempting something like a manga. Lol.

That is a cool trick, but there's something I don't understand.
I get the 600dpi for printing purposes, but why do you recommend 300dpi for web-only images? Isn't dpi meaningless if it isn't getting printed?

My flats have always been hideous things, as I'm too lazy to take into account what it will look like without my lines disguising them.
Thank you so much for making this tutorial! It's infinitely useful to me. I re-did the flats for a picture I was currently working on, and it took me forty minutes instead of two hours, with infinitely more attractive results.
