This was inspired the everyday sounds in nature that we so often close our eyes and ears to.
We ignore the beauty of the world, trapped in a world of 'black and white' sounds of cars, gossip, money, etc. Nothing of real worth.
But if we shut out those sounds and truly listen, we can see the beauty of the world. The awesome power of a thunderstorm, the silence of space, the sound of birds singing, gentle rush of wind and waves and the tinkling of snow and ice. --

This is part my first semester art assignment the topic: Loss and Gain

My idea is Loss of Sight, Gain of Insight.

Society today has become shallow. We are so absorbed by everyday needs, obsessed with the mundane. We worry too much about our wealth, status and our own pleasure. Texting, gaming, partying, shopping, work, all of these things are consuming us. And we ignore the little things, the beautiful things in life.
How many of you are in a similar situation when you spot a lovely bird in a tree, and say to your friends, "oh wow, that bird is so pretty!" and none of them look? No one seems to care, people have become so use to ignoring the small things in life that they just seem to not exist anymore, even when someone speaks out, they close their ears off. They just don't care.
We have a beautiful world, and yet we neglect it, we make excuses for it. If we need money we build a factory, and when pollution comes around, we tell ourselves we'll come back to it later, some other time we'll fix it, or people after us will solve all our problems.
It's so sad, that only a few of us nowadays will go out and take a picture of a gorgeous meadow rather than go shopping to buy the latest shoes or clothing to impress the hot new guy/girl at school.

So my picture shows two of the same girl. The girl on the left is what I have been talking about, the one consumed by our society. Reality has become harsh, colorless, meaningless...
But the girl on the right defies society.
She has shut her eyes and ears to the everyday beat of life, in an act of rebellion. Instead of focusing on what she has and wants, she concentrates on what's important. Our world and its people.
It's OK to stop once in a while and not follow the cool crowd and popular, its OK to not be just simply 'normal'.
If people ignore a beautiful flower, take time to appreciate its beauty. If people ignore a starved cat, do something to make that cat's life happier. If you see someone throw rubbish onto the ground, be the one to make the world a little more cleaner. Point out that bird, let others see what really is there.
Make the world a better place.
We need to DO something NOW.
