well yes and no most of them are monks, like avva Petroniu here, who was the abbot of romanian hermitage Prodromu in mount Athos, Greece. he passed away very recently. he was so pure and out of this world that God talked to him and he talked to God.
my interest in drawing these portraits... how to put it, I've been raised in the orthodox spirit so I had a tangency with these sort of things for many years now. I guess that's not the reason though, but perhaps it triggered it? nonetheless, I am fascinated by monks and their lives and their teachings so I strive to put their faces on paper in hope it will transmit something...and hopefully I will get better.
