Description

"Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements - the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution and for life - weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. The stars died so that you could be here today."
Lawrence M. Krauss

“The atoms of our bodies are traceable to stars that manufactured them in their cores and exploded these enriched ingredients across our galaxy, billions of years ago. For this reason, we are biologically connected to every other living thing in the world. We are chemically connected to all molecules on Earth. And we are atomically connected to all atoms in the universe. We are not figuratively, but literally stardust.”
 Neil deGrasse Tyson

Insipiration
Small painting-drawing inspired by Qinni's freckled galaxy girl painting (hope she doesn't mind it)which you can find here:fav.me/d9vv81i and the quotes above

Personal notes
I don't really sleep that well these days, but thanks to this I saw lots of stars lately. Luckily I am living on that part of the city where you can still see some of the stars though of the light pollution.

Media
Watercolor, ink, markers

wow... nicely done!  I can see the inspiration from the original.. but you've added your own personal touch/style.

Yeah, interesting to think about all those atoms.  We don't see many stars around where I live, but we did get to spend a couple of nights up in the mountains of Tennessee a couple of weeks ago, and there were LOTS of stars on those nights.  It was fun to just lay on our backs and look up at them.

(It's a little like thinking about how all the clay I use comes from the granite in the mountains... slowly weathered by winter ice and summer sun... washed down the face of the rock to collect in little streams and pools... carried further away from the foot of the mountain to swirl and pick up various impurities, like iron-oxide, which give each type of clay its characteristic color and consistency...  )

Thank you ! Well yes she is huge aspiration for me.

Yeah, it is really amazing how much stars you can see on a clear night. Always feel so free those times

I really like your way of thinking about the clay as well. And I like the thought that your clay after so long takes a rest for awhile as form an artwork.

Oh, I love to lay on the ground and look up at the stars....

True.  Of course, in another sense, the clay is returning to its beginning as stone.  The firing process returns it to a state that is similar to the igneous ("from the fire") granite that it came from.  My work is just completing the circle.

My teacher once told me that a true monochrome displays all the color of the rainbow (more or less as what she actually said was:" תסכלו על הורוד הזה יש בו צהוב כחול סגול ואדום. האומן לא רק..."["This pink isn't only pink The artist use purples blues yellows and reds..."]) I'll spare you the entire rant and just go on with this.

What I'm trying to say that the variety of colors Is very impressive. As person who still struggles with the synchronizing of the different colors. (yes I mix colors). The grace in which you've splayed the different hues is truly captivating.

I like also the the symbolic nature of the different colors. Purple for royalty. Blue for calm. Green for life and growth. Pink for love and femininity. And white for purity and energy.

The Linework is out-of-this-woorld (lame pun is lame) It perfecty narrows into beautiful strings (lame pun is lame) and in quite of a dazzling manor (lame pun is lame) entwine with the reverted white lines.

The different asterisms are gorgeously spaced (lame pun is lame) in the piece to give all of the proper ornaments to strengthen the character design.

The model was really cute...
This may read weird BUT!!! Her enormous head is a great contribution to the piece. I personally love it. I truly do

Aaand....

I burned out.

...

So...

Two nickle philosophy here we go!

Scientist have recently discovered plants with an extremely promising sighs of life 54 million~ish lights here from here.
Some show sighs of water and greenery even.
raising the hope of intelligent life forms.

I have a problem with those observations.

What is that problem?

Those observation are irrelevant as due to the fact that the light that we observe now trough state of the art telescopes is also 54 million~ish old.

meaning that what we observe is not the planet in it's current state but in his former state. 54 million~ish light years ago.

Maybe...

I am not an astrophysicist.

Indeed mixing colors  has it's own science, which I am still learning. (reading book and online tutorials helped me a lot)
Glad you like it. Honestly speaking I can't really decide whether I like it or not. It has feeling, but somehow it still lacking in many ways.

On the second part I also heard the story, just in a different way: looking into at light of stars is like looking into the past, as these many of the stars we see at night might have already died as they are so far away.

Actually it can be, but we can see aroun 2000-2500 stars with our bare eye sight depeding where you are. These needs to be at least magnitude 5-6 star. Alpha Centauri, the closest star is around 4 light year away (so around 4 year), but some stars' light would take from one side of our galaxy about 100,000 years to cross to the other side, and that's just the local stuff..,, Luckyily most stars' age are between 1 billion and 10 billion yearsold. Some stars may even be close to 13.8 billion years so the stars live longer then their light travel to Earth, so most probably we see are still 'alive', which thought I like better Indeed there can be stars that can be dead, just like this thinking better. (sorry for being nerdy, just picked up astronomy books again from the library....)

Beautiful paintinga and beautiful concept! How did you paint the sky? I've tried to achieve that texture using ink and watercolours, but so far, I haven't been succesful...

Namtia In reply to teamoth [2016-08-02 08:21:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much Hmmm. It is basically what people call ink wash I think.  I made  base paint with blue and pink with  wet on wet technique and let the colors run and mix with each other. When dried, another layer with with same technique and with the same color and and added salt to the surface when it is still wet. In this case I only added to some parts, mainly for the pinkish-lilac areas (in this pic you can see I added all over the picture, Spider web of the night , as that I time I used salt for the first time. Sometimes less is better.) Plus some places I lifted the color with a tissue to lo look like it has hard edges and the under paint remains visible (light blue shades). I hope it helps you further as I am not really good at painting just started to paint not so long ago...

Edit: oh I forgot: I added stars with white ink

Thank you! That was very helpful indeed
I think I'll try it and see how it turns out. I've done the salt thing before, but not with layers of paint or colour-lifting.
(You may not have been painting for long, but your artwork already looks amazing )
