Interesting... took me a while to figure this out, but it has the feeling of cut glass. I've seen a lot of this in the Czech (they are famous for their crystal), but the carving turns the glass white, not black... so you are creating white figures against the transparent glass.
Love how you have created the shadows around the white. It creates a feeling of depth to the drawing, as if it's hovering just a little bit above the surface of the paper.
I agree... it's probably more interesting in person (as opposed to the scan), but it's still beautiful!

Now you mention, it does look like glass cutting.
I have worked a lot in the last years the Czech Republic and especially in Prague (Prague will be always a special place in my heart. I've always felt at home there) and I have seen many of those, I even own a real Bohemian star cut lead crystal vase as well XD Maybe I would like to achieve that look subconsciously.
