You have a lovely delicate touch!
I just tried my first (non-digital) water colour to try and learn the techniques. Great fun but I overpainted it. I will have another go soon because I think I have got the hang of it to some extent.
I wonder if the comment below (from Stan Miller) has any relevance to you as a digital artist? From my own point of view it is of course directly relevant. From your point of view it raises the issue of balancing tonal values when working in layers. When I work in layers, say I'm doing an oil painting, I am working on values the whole time. I am effectively creating dozens, if not scores of layers. I think tonal values might be more difficult to control in digital work?

One can slowly layer in the values. There's not a lot to be gained by doing this, usually slowly layering in the values leads to an overworked painting, however one can achieve a nice watercolor by applying many layers. In most cases, getting the right color as soon as possible will give us the freshest, most professional look. Also, our colors usually are brighter and fresher if we avoid many layers. (Stan Miller)
