i wanted to draw something cute and happy and fluffy with this family -for once- and so, i drew the daughters in the bed of their parents! This is very historically inaccurate... Were children allowed to act like that during the 18th century? I DON'T THINK SO but... oh well, the things we do for the Art
let’s pretend Polly is around 3, Patsy around 8 and Martha is maybe pregnant - but we can’t see it because of the sheets, i’m so smart !

I think it probably is accurate. co-sleeping has been the norm for most of time. Putting your little kids in a seperate room to sleep alone is a fairly modern (and odd, in my opinion) notion. This is a very beautiful drawing.

haha, I remember sleeping like that with my two...Especially the youngest! He'd star fish out & I'd be balanced on the edge of the bed!

Oh, to hell with historical accuracy! A guy at a medieval festival once told me: "Was any of us there at the time? No! So could any of us claim that they did or didn't do something in the Middle Ages? No!!!" I really like the serenity of the drawing, and I envy you for portraying the husband's dangling arm in such an amazingly perfect (perspective-wise) way. You are truly talented!

C'est la première fois que je laisse un commentaire, mais je suis hyper fan de tous les dessins que tu as fais concernant ce couple jusqu'à présent. Et là, sérieux, c'est vraiment trop, je me dois de le faire ! Tout est superbe, comme d'habitude, mais je crois que ce que j'aime le plus c'est le fait que le pauvre Thomas se retrouve coincé contre le bord comme ça. Il va avoir de sacrées crampes en se réveillant (s'il ne se retrouve pas par terre en plein milieu de la nuit)

i like this one.. and yes i believe that children will always be children and parents will always be parents. even though children did act differently back then they would always try to find a way to sleep with mom and dad. its a fact of life that i have found to be true as my oldest boy at 5 will always find a way to sleep in our room or in between me and "mommy". the only reason the youngest isn't right there with him is that he is stuck in his crib and sleeps better.. but in all seriousness this is a probability that did happen even in the 18th century. great piece i love these pics of thomas j. i think you should make a book almost a historical fiction out of all of these that you have done. great stuff!!

That's true kids weren't in the habit of doing that at that time. Also back in that time the married couple slept in separate rooms.
