I wanted a piece of quietude, of softness.
I wanted initially to represent the City of Gondolin (Silmarillon)...
Precious secret city, my beloved. But I don't give such a precise title.
It is a castle, lost in the mist. Into the silence of a valley, and little still knows how to reach.
Shtt...! It is a secrecy, an image of my precious Kingdom...

The composition has an asymetrical symetry with the bold foreground figure on the left counterbalanced by the hazy intricacy of the distant city. Or is it distant?...there is a certain pleasing ambiguity as to wether those lofty towers are physichal structures in the mid-distance; or a vision, conjured by the faerie magic of an elf enchantress, forming from the mist. And behind the towers an even more hazy vista of mountains, or possibly clouds, that give a further sense of depth. I also like the way that the turqouise swirls of the mist is counterbalanced by the complimentary coloured cascade of coppery hair. Yet although all these compositional elements are strong, they're handled with an understated subtlety, the art that conceals art.
As implied by the cryptic but evocative text of your artists comment, the picture has a serene & silent mystery; a window into a magical place...or a magical state of mind. It has a Tolkeinesque feel to it, indeed you mention that your original idea was "to represent the City of Gondolin". I was a child when I read 'The Silmarillon' so I only have a vague memory of it & can't remember anything about Gondolin.
I notice that you've reworked the piece since I first saw it, it now has a very painterly quality. In many ways the newer version is an improvment : the res. is better; there's more fine detail in the hair and in the clothing where a suggestion of a rich, floral pattern is visible. There are also changes to the face - now she looks less like an innocent, pretty elfen maiden & more like a beautiful and slightly spooky Goth Elf! On the other hand, there are things I prefered about the original : the hair had a wilder, more fluid quality; and the overall contrast was higher - the new version looks slightly washed out due to the lower contrast. I also rather liked that equal fusion of photography and brushwork - where it was clear that both elements were involved, but the line between them was unclear - in this way the technique itself created an air of ambiguity that enhanced the sense of Enchantment (if you see what I mean).
I would be interested to know more of what themes and ideas you had in mind when you were working on this. What it suggests to me (and this is a purely subjective viewpoint!) are the thoughts & emotions associated with what I call 'The Cloud Palace'. This is a recurant theme in my work (although currently there's only one such piece in my DA gallery) a concept which can work on a number of levels, but could perhaps be most simply defined as...an Enchanted Gateway to the Other World. A place I long sought & dreamed of, eventually found, but lost again. Yet it still exists; glanced from the corner of the eye; it is so near and yet so far away.
I glimpse it again looking at your work, particularly this piece.

This is by far one of the most breathtakingly beautiful pieces on DA. (I just added it to my wishlist. Oh to be rich...) The model could not be more beautiful or faerie-like. She's unearthly! A cluster of birds, a cluster of towers... its like a faerie tale for sure. I absolutely love your works.

Absolutely beautiful and fragile
Very surrealistic, I love the fantasical flow in this piece, and how the lady expresses how precious her kingdom is.
The birds look very lovely, a viewer can almost hear the lovely echo of the birds into the twilight.
