Description Last oil painting I made in my ART101 - intermediate painting class.

A self portrait based off a photo I took. This is my smallest painting yet. The canvas board is only 8x10''. The face came out a bit lopsided, but I was more concerned with color mixing and blending for this one.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you keep your oil colors so pure and keep them from getting "muddied" and dull?

I don't mind at all. I mix all my colors on a glass palate before touching the canvas. So that way I can just put the pure colors down in thin layers with light blending where the strokes meet. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot. I'm still trying to understand the bigger technicalities of the medium. Beautiful portrait.

Damn that's nice. It feels like it has a lot of staying power, very strong and solid Must be the shadowing.

Wow, this is definitely one of the best works I've seen from you. I really love the style here; the use of color and shadow here are just great, and the method of color blending is absolutely beautiful.

Of particular note are the eyes and surrounding area along with the lips and surrounding area. Again, the color and lighting combined with the method of blending make this piece really stand out.

Yay! That's always the hardest thing about portraits, making them look like who they are supposed to be. XD
