It is quite simple: you use a coloured pencil as base tone (here: cherry redish). The pencil colour is usually the lightest colour. Now you add a darker coloured marker in thoose areas which you want to be darker. For smoothening the edges just use the coloured pencil, the marker should blur, leaving naturally darker and lighter marker areas. Then you add a darker marker and repeat the procedure
