Surprise! Celestia again. It was good to see her in the premiere of Season 7. She's been missed. :cThis was a funny one. She was originally supposed to be lying down, but I decided to make it into another flying piece because why not.
I'll have this piece at Everfree Northwest. Speaking of which, I'll be at Everfree Northwest ! It'll be the farthest I've ever travelled for a pony con. If you're gonna be there, come chat with me! I'll be in the vendor hall. Also buy some of my stuff I guess.
Some alternate background versions can be found here . the thick clouds were the original, and the higher contrast planet and sky without the foreground cloud was my first attempt at a replacement. I think the high contrast version might actually be better, but I was indecisive when posting and the final is a blend of the two.

Then Celestia does a partial flip, back facing the ground, before closing her eyes and wings. She falls. Falls like the corrupted angel she believes herself to resemble; if she ever resembled an angel at all. Heading towards the ground, air rushing around her, wind twisting her mane and tail. Her body passes through a cloud. Now soaking, she shivers. She always positions herself above the biggest one. But the water is no baptism. It doesn't cleanse her of the wrongs she's committed, and soon enough, even the pure water leaves her.
As she descends, images flash behind her clenched eyelids. Ones that become so clear she reaches out with two desperate hooves, pulling in something that isn't there. Now holding herself, she cries. The tears stream above her like reverse waterfalls of a dam now burst. She remembers it all so clearly, and how couldn't she? Some things don't fade with time...
All too quickly it's over. Before reaching the ground, Celestia turns herself upright and her wings snap out. A rough transition, but one that's necessary as she glides to the ground. She is exhausted, not from the flight, but instead from her emotions. Her burden. She wipes her eyes with a foreleg, drying tears that still continue to form.
The day is about to begin, and for her subjects, she must be strong. But once each and every year, she will do it yet again. All starting with a long flight up, and an even longer gaze at the Mare in the Moon.

Well you've got enough praise here, so it's time for a criticism-only comment!
The front legs are way too little and tin, her wings too and the left one doesn't really have any reason to stay half closed if not to fit in the picture. Her mane too feels squashed and dat bit of shading in the back legs... dat bit of shading...

Beautiful colors, and the details on her eyes, mane and tail are incredible.
Her wings look a bit too long and scraggly, though. Might be better if her shorter flight feathers were longer or the two wingbones closest to her body were shorter.

What happened to her wings? It's such a drastic contrast between nadnerbd.deviantart.com/art/To⦠or even this nadnerbd.deviantart.com/art/Ra⦠and this... plucked-chicken. Did you forget or intentionally omit her secondaries? This very much looks like if you just disabled a whole layer of feathers, but I think you paint, so it doesn't quite work like that.

No, I think even with the second layer of wings you could see her back. The second layer just would have to be positioned in a specific way, which wouldn't be impossible.

Your instincts definitely paid off with this one: Princess Celestia rising is fantastic. She's downright lovely, first off, but with that splendid, graceful mid-air pose and a great mix of awe and humility in her expression she's simply the best. Great depth, mane & tail effects (lighting, flow, etc.) and terrific depth. Lovely work on that sky too, especially with a great perspective to make it grand, plus the glistening earth below adds a lot of charm.

This painting is beautiful though I would offer one bit of criticism, her wings are a bit too lacking in feathers.Β Other then that, I'm in love with how you put so much work into her mane and tail so they're gloriously flowing and opulent.Β The background is really good too, it works great with the title.Β
