i really don't get it...they're both mice...but? What? Why would an owl eat a computer mouse?

but then what is the 'then' and what is the 'now'? This joke seems baseless and entirely random, albeit disguised by an extremely thin veil of coincidence--that being that both objects are 'mice'

Then is for the time without computers and comuter mice(mice?) and now we have them and as both are mice then this is the joke itself

I thought it was because when one stays up late (usually to use electronics) they are called "night owls", and the difference between mouse and computer mouse represents that. At least, that was my interpretation.
