There could be two plausible scenarios, either one at work here:

1. The duck doesn't realize the origami is a fake; or

2. The duck realizes the origami is a fake, but instead filters that reality out from its mind (i.e. ignoring it) by choice.

In both scenarios, there is a selective perception at play, and thus denial prevails.
