Description Copy and pasted the Hiragana Poster description XD... I changed the layout design on both of them a bit.

God, I don't even know what to say about this poster. I spent around 80 hours total on these chibis and another 3-4 hours designing it. This is indeed a remake of my old poster, and it's complete with new characters! I hope you guys will use this to aid in your learning of the Japanese syllabary system.

I want to thank ~JC-Of-The-RedFlame *joodlez ~Munesansun ~Noirrac *shilin (ALPHABETICAL ORDER LOL) for your endless encouragement and support. I literally would not have been able to make it without you guys.

A few notes and instructions:

1) Each katakana character/letter corresponds to the highlighted portion of each character's name (color-coded).

2) "N" and "Wo" do not phonetically correspond to the characters portrayed above, and they are only there to serve as a mnemonic device. It is important to note that "N" only occurs at the coda of a syllable (end), and "Wo" is only used as a grammatical particle in Hiragana.

3) The syllable, "Fu", unlike in English, is a bilabial fricative. The English counterpart is formed labiodental. (If you don't understand this look it up or just ignore this).

Anyway, this will be sold at AX and Otakon, so I look forward to seeing you all there!!

EDIT: Please do not repost or reblog this anywhere! If you'd like to, just send me a note! Thanks!

I really like your Hiragana guide, but the font for the Katakana makes it too difficult to really see the details.

Could you make a second edition with the katakana variant of the hiragana font, or (even better), a serif version of both? This really helps to learn the damn things, and would make your charts and your work so much more useful.

I think the right order in the final row should be: wa wo N, not wa N wo!

I put it in the same row so I didn't have to waste another one completely on one syllable.

Looking at your edit, I'm not exactly sure if Read Manga sent you a note since I saw this posted on Facebook. << Other than that, I really like how you gave each character different poses and giving some of them their key items.

Yeah, I didn't get a note from them...they kinda just posted it without asking. Sigh lol...this isn't the first time though. Thanks for letting me know.

You could always go to their website [link] and request that they remove the post since they didn't ask permission first. After all, it's your work, not theirs.

Eaglshadow [2012-06-07 17:42:53 +0000 UTC]

Good job, but I think the font is not very friendly for new people that are learning this for the first time. I know hiragana but have yet to learn katakana, and I like the default font that you used for the hiragana chart, but the one you used for this chart just looks way too fat/bold. I'm afraid that if I learned from this I wouldn't be able to recognize some of katakana characters when I see them in a the more default font.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

na-insoo In reply to Eaglshadow [2012-06-08 01:09:11 +0000 UTC]

The Hiragana chart originally had a terrible font to it as well...honestly I didn't take the time I needed to find the best font for Katakana and went for something more graphically pleasing instead. I needed to finish the whole design and arrangement of the poster in VERY LITTLE time, so I ended up rushing the hell out of it and not caring later. Anyway, sorry that it's not a good choice, but I don't think I will be changing it ...I don't plan to do these charts anymore since I already did an older iteration (a collaboration with someone) before...and they're way too time consuming and life-draining. Thanks for the comment.

This is where I found it. I imagine you already know about it, but if not then J-List is a major exporter of all things related to Japanese culture, especially anime and video games. Their link would have been seen by close to 25,000 people.
