A complete and very useful accurate animal size chart for your use

For best quality, download the image. Warning, it is MASSIVE.

I did NOT draw these images. In order to preserve correct anatomy, I traced them from photographs.

[OLD CHART]
Because this chart is so big and confusing, I've separated a few of the species
[link] - CANINE Size Comparison Chart
[link] - FELINE Size Comparison Chart - YES I'm flipping aware Hyenas aren't felines. Jeeze I just put them there because they're more closely related.
[link] - TYPICAL MIX Size Comparison Chart

Use as you may, on any site you wish, however do not claim it as your own and please link back here! 8D
This is as close as I could get the sizes. I looked them up multiple times, and these are averages.

ENJOY

Edit:// BY THE WAY. Dogs/Cats/Horses/Bears Are measured at the WITHERS or point of the shoulders, right at the base of the neck. Only thing on here that's not is the man. PLEASE keep this in mind when creating your ELEPHANT sized dogs v.v

So this is height at the shoulder size scale yes? Because this wouldn't add up with a weight scale but it adds up for shoulder height

The longest and heavies; lions are taller at the shoulder.

in weight not height. Tigers are 3 - 3.5 feet. Lions are up to 4 feet.

no they are right, Β tigers are the largest big catsΒ

tigers areΒ 70 – 122cm and lions areΒ 120 cm on average

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Myuui In reply to GlitchyJelly [2014-12-17 08:59:21 +0000 UTC]

Do you seriously think I didn't research this before I made it? Honestly?Β

First of all, those two statistics don't add up. One is a RANGE and the other is an AVERAGE. You can't compare the two.Β

So here are multiple sources that state that a tiger is generally 3 to 3.5 feet in height -Β www.defenders.org/tiger/basic-… www.theanimalfiles.com/mammals… library.sandiegozoo.org/factsh…
And here are multiple sources that state that a lion is generally 3.5 to 4 feet in height -Β www.defenders.org/african-lion… animals.pawnation.com/weight-h… www.felineconservation.org/fel…

Note that I am basing this off of MALES which are generally much larger than females. Many sources state that male lions can reach heights of up to 4 feet while I have not seen any suggesting tigers do.

In the link for Feline size, the animals are too small. A male lion is typically 4 ft at its shoulder, putting its head higher, but there its head is at 4 ft. The chart above is much better and very helpful.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bLAZZE92 In reply to BeautyOfNature [2014-10-11 18:16:30 +0000 UTC]

Male lions are not typically 4ft at the shoulder, they average 100cm (~3.3ft)Β or a little less, the confusion comes from some hunters and some zoologists using a shoulder-paw measurement rather than a trueΒ standing shoulder height or the very similar shoulder-wrist measurement. The same is true for the 5ft and 5.3ft tall measurements of brown and polar bears.

Sorry for the double post but this is actually very misleading. You have called this a size comparison chart but in actuality it is not. If this is a HEIGHT chart, then please call it that. Cheetahs may be tall-ish but the cougar and jaguar are both a lot bigger then a cheetah. The basic SIZE chart for big cats (not height) is listed as:
1. Tiger
2. Lion
3. Jaguar
4. Cougar
5. Leopard
6. Cheetah
7. Snow Leopard, clouded leopard, sunda leopards etc (I havent taken the time to compare size between these 3) but they are generally slightly smaller then cheetahs.

I dont mind if you have done a height chart rather then a size chart, but please label it clearly. Otherwise every idiot who sees this will believe that cheetahs are bigger then jaguars and having seen wild cheetahs in Africa... they're about the same size as large Alsatians, maybe a little bigger.

While lions can be exceptionally large, the tiger is listed as the largest of the Big Cats. Still, really lovely chart. Nicely done

The Siberian Tiger is bigger than the lion, the lion is a little taller at shoulders but is smaller in size and weight. That's the main problem I see with this chart, I mean this is not about who's tallest right ? but about who's bigger. I just think it's misinformative for the people who still don't know that the tigers are the largest felids .
