Wait. I don't really understand the rarity of the eyes. Are slit eyes rare or are they just all the same?

There isn't a rarity to the eyes. Those are just examples of types.

Hello~
I'm planning on adopting a Pocket Dragon and also a Gon and using them for a roleplay, so I wanted to know if those species can fluently talk english/human language.
Thank you for making these awsome species open! I love them!

Most of my species are capable of human speech, including these. As far as any other details, I always welcome people to invent and expand on anything I create.

xxFuria [2014-07-31 18:33:45 +0000 UTC]

Just realized something. Is it alright to include some scales on their face as a part of the "full length body scales" rare trait? It helps a lot with the transition between the fully scaled neck and the face.

Also sort of related: is it necessary to keep their cheeks fluffy or is it ok to leave them bare?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mythka In reply to xxFuria [2014-07-31 19:31:55 +0000 UTC]

Its fine to include the scales and no you don't have to keep the cheeks fluffy

TerraClaws [2014-07-14 10:54:41 +0000 UTC]

With the "Fur Placement", are all the orange "rare" fur together a rare trait or are the three different placements all separate traits? I'd like my guy to be as fury as possible but if that rare fur adds up to three separate traits then I won't be able to add it all. Thanks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mythka In reply to TerraClaws [2014-07-14 16:20:21 +0000 UTC]

All the rare fur areas count as 1 trait. Leaving you open for 1 more rare trait

NagoshiAshumari [2014-07-10 18:16:55 +0000 UTC]

I had a quick question about these guys, I don't want to mess up my entry, I love it to much ;v;
As far as dragons go, can these guys do any 'dragon' things like breath fire or any other magic stuff?
It kind of hints at this, but I just want to be clear; each unique marking counts as a separate uncommon trait? What exactly counts as a marking? Like if my dragon is white and has a brown nose, brown ears, brown feet, brown tail and spots on his back, is that to many markings (just an example), or would the spots be the only marking? What if my white dragon has spots on his back and on his head does that count as one or two markings? (sorry about the many questions >_> )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mythka In reply to NagoshiAshumari [2014-07-10 18:49:29 +0000 UTC]

I didn't want to limit the dragons to "this can do this sort of thing". I really wanted to leave them open ended so people can come up with their own sorts of powers and abilities.

Markings would be anything like a fur/skin pattern. Stripes, spots, calico, dapple etc. Coat patterns anywhere on the body count as 1 uncommon trait as a whole, not by section.

Hope that helps.

oh god these are so precious I can't wait for the contest!! I hope my schedule will allow when the time comes.
Is there a limit to how many each person can make?
When you say "can have up to 2 uncommon traits and up to 2 rare traits", meaning they can have like.. full back mane + markings, and large horns + wings on the same dragon? sorry for the stupid question sdkfjhgk

Why are they called pocket dragons?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mythka In reply to crystaldragonwish [2014-06-02 02:55:29 +0000 UTC]

#1 They are a rather small species of dragon, though most may be too large to fit in your pocket. #2 They have a habit of "borrowing" items from pockets, anything they think may look nice as an accessory.

..what if i have had a simple dragon character for ages now and technically he could be considered a pocket dragon? ovo"

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Mythka In reply to omenaapple [2014-06-02 01:24:37 +0000 UTC]

Technically yes, if the design was reworked to look more like the Pocket Dragon, following the creation rules and all. If not, then its not really a Pocket Dragon. Not 100% sure what your asking here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

omenaapple In reply to Mythka [2014-06-02 17:16:08 +0000 UTC]

sorry, didnt mean to sound confusing ;v; I um. have a simplistic dragon, but if he had accessories, he could go as a Pocket Dragon - seeing the requirements here. my point being, these pocket dragons are.. sort of wide concept - dragons that are small, have fluff and possibly scales? the accessories-always point is great, but other than that I see it hard being a closed species :'o please dont take my point the wrong way - i guess my question after all is what makes these guys different, and how can existing dragon characters be picked apart from Pocket Dragons?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mythka In reply to omenaapple [2014-06-02 17:50:22 +0000 UTC]

First, don't take any offence to what I'm about to say

I'm really not going to get into the politics of this issue because I feel it leads to a whole lot of needless drama. I do plan on putting a bit more into the concept for these with an expanded ref sheet, but again its for fun, not super serious and I don't go around calling foul when people make similar things. I suppose my thought on this subject has always been, that if you like an artists style and concept you will support them. So if you want to make your dragon more like the concept I set up feel free. I can't and won't stop you. My question is though, if you like my concept, and you want to change your OC to be similar, doesn't that make it interesting enough for you?

Really in the end its up to you to decide if you think this idea is cool and you want to take part in the contest or if you don't like it and move on.

shinyfeather22 In reply to Mythka [2014-06-02 21:06:59 +0000 UTC]

I believe the bigger issue is around it being a "closed species", because when you use that term, it automatically assumes you have some sort of power of copyright to throw around right?
Problem is, you can only do that when it's a single character design, and not a range of designs like shown here. It's like if someone writes a melody for a song, and then they say "oh, but you can vary these three notes here", and then assumes they have copyright over all ranges of songs that would be produced if someone changed those particular notes. It's not something that copyright law accepts, and if you were to go to a trademark office to trademark your species, they would point to this sheet and ask "ok, but which one of these designs do you want to trademark?", because it's simply not possible to have it all ways and say you want it to be possible to have all variances of a trait.
You're probably not wanting to really perpetuate this issue, but the act of calling it a "closed species" these days really increases the confusion surrounding this issue in the community, and even if you understand the issue and act accordingly, it would still help if you could put a note in the artist's comments or something to explain your position on usage rights.

okay! makes sense, and i didnt mean for it to sound like an issue ;o; sorry! overall these dragonses are a lovely concept, and it'd be wonderful if the idea takes off and many people decide to create these for theirselves! thank you for all the good points you told me here, and again sorry if my actions were uncalled for. ;v;"

If the size of a house cat is the largest an adult Pocket Dragon can grow to, what's the smallest size an adult Pocket Dragon could be?  If there was a group for these cuties so I could easily RP or draw interaction with other people's Pocket Dragons, I'd be interested. ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mythka In reply to inkryptid [2014-06-02 00:33:43 +0000 UTC]

Little hard to put my finger on a size but I think a good size grade would be anywhere between something the size of a Main coon (fairly large cat breed between 10-16 inches at the shoulder) and a Munchkin (small cat breed maybe 5 inches at the shoulder). Little hard to get really accurate because most of the time a cats size is referred to in pounds, and thats hard to visualize hehe.
And if there is a lot of interest in these dragons, I may consider a group of some sort.
