Description The actual title (which wouldn't fit in dA's form) is "The Real Reason Your Mother Told You That You Shouldn't Draw On The Walls"

My first drawing from life in a while. I have a few process animations that I did about halfway through the painting: it shows how I started and how different this looked... it went through many many stages.

Eyes Animation - At 50% Resolution, Layer 59 out of 81 Layers Total
Whole Drawing Animation - Also layer 59 out of 81.

I can do another total process animation if people really want, but I might break my computer, I don't think Imageready can handle 678 megs.

Thanks to =Helen-Baq for the inspiration to do cross-hatching, which I haven't done since high school, and to =memod for his encouragement and critiques throughout the process.

My hand hurts. 18 hours total, straight through. A very long, but productive day. Lots of coffee involved.

UPDATE - Thanks for all the constructive crit guys!!!! I can't tell you how much better this looks now, so thank you thank you thank you!

Also I've uploaded some detail shots for you to check out - Eye .. Turtle .. And .. Fishy !

(Eye & Turtle are 100% resolution, fishy is 75% of the original resolution)

That is so awesome! I wish things would be like that, that whatever we draw on the wall turnes alive

Very cool! I kind of wish that stuff would come alive when I was at the stage I drew on the walls (I have done murals before, tho that was in high school, we are not talking age 3 here ).

Course I bet that gryphon I wanted to paint would be pretty damn hungry.

I did a "mural" when I was little in crayon. That's sort of what this is about.

Oh, I've done those too! The last one someone actually requested though ! (Not me specifically, my art club in high school, but I of course wanted to paint up someone's garage.)

aww I love the concept of this painting...it reminds me of a story my dad wrote for me when I was young, about simply drawing anything you wished for and it would come to life! Your technique is brilliant, beautiful skin tones and hair and the cross-hatching is very skilfully done. Your whole gallery is most pleasing to the eye, but this is definitely my favourite I hope you don't mind if I watch you!

Yes. The background is amazing. But I'm not so sure about the face. There seems to be something just... a bit... wrong. I'm not sure what, but there is. *Thinks*

mynti In reply to Deep-Brown [2006-10-04 18:08:53 +0000 UTC]

It's a caricature or a cartoon more than a realistic painting from me, I am trying a more fun approach sometimes to painting.

Great work. I really like the turtle and the expression on the fish's face. (and the pencil and the facial expression and the way all of it was done.) I'm looking forward to seeing more in this style.
That room could get messy if those horses start moving around.

mynti In reply to pepperw [2006-10-01 12:07:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Richard. Yeah, the drawings coming alive might not be so fun.. especially if you have a tendancy to draw macabre things... I always had a fascination when I was a kid of the books "Harold and the Purple Crayon".. and so when I was 3, I drew all over the walls of my childhood house, mostly scribbles, and my mom only painted over it when we moved out of the house. It was kind of funny.

pepperw In reply to mynti [2006-10-01 13:57:35 +0000 UTC]

"Harold and the Purple Crayon". I absolutely love that book still to this day. Which reminds me that I have to get a copy for my granddaughters.
A friend of my brother's drew on the walls when he was little and his parents left it there for years and years. It may still be there. He's now a illustrator for children's books and his scribbles on the wall would probably add value to the house for the right people.
