So I think I understand this breed. Just one thing. Do they HAVE to have horns in order to have both a snake, and a bird spirit, or do they all have both spirits, and just gain them with age and experience?

they have both spirit, but only one can show, with experience the two spirits starts to appear when. The horns appears also when the other spirit (the one that is hidding) show.
the horns grows as the two spirits starts to unite themselves
