This weeks entry for battle-artist (battle-artist.deviantart.com).Unfortunately this ver. isn't finished yet, but life kinda got in the way, so had to bring all my stuff to my parents, then install programs, drivers, etc. and try to flick the bits'n bobs together. Found out the hamsters that drive their ooold pc is kinda pension-ready, so nomatter how much i whipped 'em they didn't wanna budge, so in the end i gave up, and decided to just upload
Still looads i want to get done. Hopefully i'll be home soon so i can fidget a bit more with it.The challenge was to draw Kuma from Afro samurai.
Never even heard of it, but must say the art is stunning, and its worth watching it just for that.
I'm a bit of a chicken (curry), and it's quite gory and brutal, so had to hide my face cpl of times watching it haha (just a warning for the faint-hearted).
Decided to practice some charcoal (or pastel-thingies or whatever its called in english), so had a go at black paper as well. Was a bit odd drawing "inversed", and without the possibility of erasing
Anyways, pleeeeeaaaase if u have some criticism, i'd be more than happy
Be brutal, be honest, don't hold back ------------------------
edit: hahaha just noticed, it looks like he's got a moustache
...well it's actually tubes for his survival-system-cyborg-kit-thingy...but a mo' would def' be cooler

Uhm, my plans are to do it...whether or not its gonna happen, that's a complete other keg of fish (omg i just luv mutilating proverbs haha). Got a ton of sketches and thumbs for ideas lying around (literally). What about u? I'd luv to see who you'd tron'ify

I love how "dark" this looks! I mean he was an awesome/ depressing character but you took him wayyyy into another realm of "dark". I like, I like, I like!!!
My criticism focuses on the teddy helm, the bears mouth was more of a protruding square shape I'd say, looks more like half of a softball here. And I was going to say that the teddy ear should be more in line with his shoulder but I think its the helms right eye that is a bit out of place since the helm is open, I think the eye should be higher and more towards the center of that half of the helm.
My praise, that you were brave enough to work on black paper with pastels
I really like that you used a blue in his skin, separates him nicely!
Of course the swords are beautifully done!
And the glow you added to his eye is sweet!
... yeah I pretty much like everything!

I can so much see what you mean. I'll have to see if i can move stuff around without messing the whole thing up (atm it looks like it's got an ear in it's neck...maybe it's aspiring to become a teapot haha).

man, came back to check this in higher rez and its just eerily beautiful. The foreground katana is just incredible, really perfected the shining metal effect and the debris scatter is awesome. Great composition idea putting this on black paper.
Even somewhat unfinished you can tell this would wield a lot of power.
Know you prefer critique to compliment, but its hard to not be amazed by pieces like this. Again to harp on one tiny factor would be the waist size is a little slim, but thats only on second look, and not even critical.
Can tell the subject art inspired you this week too.

Yeah, i can see why you would choose kuma instead of afro. Man he's one messed up, poor, abused soul! Tbh i had a lotta trouble getting thru series and film...it's pretty nuanced graphically when it comes to chopping people into pieces :S ...im such a (curry) chicken when it comes to blood and stuff

like the sketchyness of this one!(and now i finally know which eye had the neverending tears coming from it). always wanted to watch afro samurai but the first ep was too gory for me haha. i guess it's only manga violence i can deal with.

alright limme see what i got for you.the only thing i see, and i mean it..is his face.i understand that it is a profile view but it looks really flat to me, almost like his face was cut in half along with his big teddy bear head.other than that this is a beyond awesome illustration.i have a feeling that when i make my run to retrieve my title back you will be the one that holds it by than.

Yeah i see what you mean. Had bigtime trouble doing the face cause its so small (actually tried to jam the crayons or whatever they're called into my pencil-sharpener...outcome wasn't a success haha).
